Neuro-Linguistic Skills & Techniques for Attorneys
Signature Course No. 28 — A Signature AI Socratic Coaching Course.
A New Kind of Learning
Socratic coaching, delivered by an agentic AI coach.
Not a course you watch. An AI coach you work with.
The Lighthouse Coach begins by discovering how you think about the subject, teaches what is missing, and gives you realistic practice before asking you to prove that you can use it. You may test out of concepts you already understand, while capstones turn the learning into a practical plan, decision, conversation, or other real-world result.
The curriculum is deliberately authored; the AI delivers it through coaching. It is not an AI randomly generating lessons.
A coach that teaches by asking — not by lecturing
The Lighthouse Coach is an AI Socratic coach built on Cognosco Learning's Neuro-Linguistic Skills & Techniques for Attorneys course, in the Professional Development category. It does not play videos at you. It holds a conversation: it asks you a question, listens to your answer, names the misconception it hears, affirms what you got right, and asks the next question — the way a great coach works in the room.
This is the course for attorneys whose work is decided in rooms — hearings, depositions, mediations, trials, and the client meetings where a client decides whether to tell you the whole truth. It works in the order the work has to happen: first, Module 1 — The Advocate's Instrument: State, Listening, Rapport, and Calibration — settle your own state before the room can use you, keep the pause in the hot ten seconds, hear the words a client actually uses, ask the precision questions that recover what a sentence left out, build rapport with the person across the desk and across the table, learn calibration — watching what observably changes, claiming only what you saw — and prepare the room before the room, finishing with The First Meeting; then, Module 2 — The Argument: Framing, Precision, and Persuasion Inside the Lines — choose your frame on purpose and from the evidence, reframe without distorting, speak with precision on the record, put story in service of proof, address twelve listeners in one voice without typing them, treat the negotiation as a conversation and the deposition as listening, recover when the room turns, and audit the whole toolkit under the described-back test, finishing with The Mediation. You finish by proving the whole course — in The First Meeting and in The Mediation. You can type your answers, or talk out loud: the Voice Coach speaks its questions and listens to your spoken replies, hands-free. The course is self-paced and always on — roughly 30 minutes per concept, about 9 hours in full, taken in as many sittings as you like. Learners who already know the material can test out concept by concept.
The fences, stated plainly. The skills are taught as practical craft: things an advocate can do in a room and test in the next room — settle your own state, hear the words a client actually uses, ask the question that recovers what a sentence left out, choose the frame your true argument lives in. The course does not claim that NLP's theoretical model of the mind is established science, and it teaches nothing that depends on that claim. Observation is taught as calibration, which is disciplined attention to what observably changes in a person, used to form questions rather than conclusions — watch everything, claim only what you saw — never mind reading or lie detection, and no observable signal certifies either. And every skill is held inside an attorney's duties that do not bend: candor to the tribunal, no deception of court, jury, client, or opposing party, no manipulation of witnesses. The standing rule for holding those lines is the described-back test: never use a move you would be embarrassed to hear described back to you, by opposing counsel, to the judge, in front of your client. Rapport in these pages is not a trick and reframing is not distortion: a frame is chosen from the evidence and must stay true to it, and the moment a reframe needs a fact softened, the course teaches the advocate to stop.
This is the twenty-eighth course in The Lighthouse Signature Series — the online counterpart to the one-day, in-person training Cognosco Learning has delivered since 2002.

Calibrate First → Learn & Practice → Prove → Capstone
Every learner moves through the same discipline a Cognosco instructor would insist on in the room.
Calibrate First
The Coach starts by taking an honest read of the instrument — your state, your ear, and your powers of observation as they actually stand. Everyone begins with Module 1 — no skipping the foundations you only think you have.
Learn & Practice
Work each concept in conversation with the Coach — spoken or written — then practice it against realistic situations until it holds up.
Prove
Every concept ends in proof: answer the check cold and demonstrate the skill. Know it already? Test out and take credit immediately.
Capstone
Finish with two capstones — The First Meeting for Module 1 and The Mediation for Module 2 — that pull the whole course together, and earn the certificate.

Built for attorneys whose work is decided in rooms
Neuro-Linguistic Skills & Techniques for Attorneys is for litigators and trial attorneys whose work is decided in rooms, counseling and transactional attorneys whose rooms are intake meetings, client conferences, and negotiation tables, attorneys early in practice who have the law and are building the craft deliberately, and experienced advocates who want their instincts named, examined, and sharpened: apply NLP communication techniques in legal contexts, build rapid rapport with clients, judges, and juries, reframe arguments to land with maximum impact, and manage your own state under high-pressure conditions.
The fences apply here, too. The skills are taught as practical craft, with no claim that NLP's theoretical model is established science. Observation is calibration — watching what observably changes, claiming only what you saw — never mind reading or lie detection. And no skill leaves the ethical lines: candor to the tribunal, no deception of court, jury, client, or opposing party, and the described-back test as the standing rule — never use a move you would be embarrassed to hear described back to you, by opposing counsel, to the judge, in front of your client.
