Neuro-Linguistic Skills & Techniques for Health Care Professionals
Signature Course No. 30 — A Signature AI Socratic Coaching Course.
A New Kind of Learning
Socratic coaching, delivered by an agentic AI coach.
Not a course you watch. An AI coach you work with.
The Lighthouse Coach begins by discovering how you think about the subject, teaches what is missing, and gives you realistic practice before asking you to prove that you can use it. You may test out of concepts you already understand, while capstones turn the learning into a practical plan, decision, conversation, or other real-world result.
The curriculum is deliberately authored; the AI delivers it through coaching. It is not an AI randomly generating lessons.
A coach that teaches by asking — not by lecturing
The Lighthouse Coach is an AI Socratic coach built on Cognosco Learning's Neuro-Linguistic Skills & Techniques for Health Care Professionals course, in the Professional Development category. It does not play videos at you. It holds a conversation: it asks you a question, listens to your answer, names the misconception it hears, affirms what you got right, and asks the next question — the way a great coach works in the room.
This is the course for doctors, nurses, therapists, and clinical staff who want every patient conversation to carry the care — in clinics, on hospital wards, at the dental chair, in therapy offices, and on home-health visits. It works in the order the work has to happen: first, Module 1 — The Patient Conversation: Listening First, Words That Land — build trust in the first minutes before the chart is open, listen for the real concern behind the question, match the patient's pace, choose words that calm rather than alarm, explain in plain words in the right order in small pieces, check that it landed, frame options truthfully, treat a refusal as information, and carry consent as a conversation, finishing with The First Conversation; then, Module 2 — The Hard Moments and the Clinician: Difficult News, Difficult Rooms, Your Own State — deliver difficult news plainly, meet fear wearing other clothes, hold the family in the room without surrendering the patient's voice, talk about pain honestly, hand over as a conversation, and turn the same attention on your own state, resets that fit real work, repair, and the help line, finishing with The Hard Shift. You finish by proving the whole course — in The First Conversation and in The Hard Shift. You can type your answers, or talk out loud: the Voice Coach speaks its questions and listens to your spoken replies, hands-free. The course is self-paced and always on — roughly 30 minutes per concept, about 9 hours in full, taken in as many sittings as you like. Learners who already know the material can test out concept by concept.
The fences, stated plainly. The skills are taught as practical, observable communication craft: things a clinician can do in a room and test in the next encounter — rapport, listening, pacing, precise and gentle language, truthful framing; you slowed down, you listened for the real concern, you matched the patient's pace, you chose a plainer word, you checked that the explanation landed. The course does not claim that NLP's theoretical model of the mind is established science, and it teaches nothing that depends on that claim. And this is a communication course, never clinical guidance: it gives no advice on diagnosis, treatment, or medication, and it makes no claim that language heals or treats anything. Communication affects a patient's experience, understanding, and willingness to agree to a plan — that is the claim, no more. The sold word compliance is taught as partnership — the patient's informed agreement to a plan they understand — never as getting a patient to obey. Consent conversations are taught as conversation craft inside the clinician's own protocols and local policy, never as consent law. What you decide clinically stays yours, governed by your training, your protocols, and your judgment.
This is the thirtieth course in The Lighthouse Signature Series — the online counterpart to the one-day, in-person training Cognosco Learning has delivered since 2002.

Listen First → Learn & Practice → Prove → Capstone
Every learner moves through the same discipline a Cognosco instructor would insist on in the room.
Listen First
The Coach starts by taking an honest read of how you listen — what you notice, what you hear as the real concern, and what you do next as they actually stand. Everyone begins with Module 1 — no skipping the foundations you only think you have.
Learn & Practice
Work each concept in conversation with the Coach — spoken or written — then practice it against realistic situations until it holds up.
Prove
Every concept ends in proof: answer the check cold and demonstrate the skill. Know it already? Test out and take credit immediately.
Capstone
Finish with two capstones — The First Conversation for Module 1 and The Hard Shift for Module 2 — that pull the whole course together, and earn the certificate.

Built for doctors, nurses, therapists, and clinical staff
Neuro-Linguistic Skills & Techniques for Health Care Professionals is for doctors and physicians carrying hard conversations daily, nurses who hold the patient's day together and translate the plan at the bedside, therapists and counselors whose work is conversation itself, clinical support staff who set the temperature before the clinician enters, and experienced clinicians who want their instincts named, examined, and sharpened: communicate with patients to reduce anxiety and resistance, build trust quickly in clinical settings, use language patterns that support understanding and the patient's informed agreement, and manage your own stress and emotional state on the job.
The fences apply here, too. The skills are taught as practical, observable communication craft, with no claim that NLP's theoretical model is established science. This is a communication course, never clinical guidance — no diagnosis, treatment, or medication advice, and no claim that language heals or treats anything. Compliance is partnership — the patient's informed agreement — never obedience, and consent is conversation craft inside the clinician's own protocols.
