Advanced Sales Techniques
Signature Course No. 198 — A Signature AI Socratic Coaching Course.
A New Kind of Learning
Socratic coaching, delivered by an agentic AI coach.
Not a course you watch. An AI coach you work with.
The Lighthouse Coach begins by discovering how you think about the subject, teaches what is missing, and gives you realistic practice before asking you to prove that you can use it. You may test out of concepts you already understand, while capstones turn the learning into a practical plan, decision, conversation, or other real-world result.
The curriculum is deliberately authored; the AI delivers it through coaching. It is not an AI randomly generating lessons.
A coach that teaches by asking — not by lecturing
The Lighthouse Coach is an AI Socratic coach built on Cognosco Learning's Advanced Sales Techniques course, in the Sales, Service & Revenue category. It does not play videos at you. It holds a conversation: it asks you a question, listens to your answer, names the misconception it hears, affirms what you got right, and asks the next question — the way a great coach works in the room.
Selling at the advanced level is not louder selling. It is more exact selling. The beginner's problem is coverage: enough calls, enough questions, enough asks. The experienced seller's problem is precision: the one question that reaches the fact the buyer has been protecting, the thirty seconds of silence that lets a real concern surface, the single piece of evidence that matches the single doubt actually in the room, the written proposal that a buyer can defend to a partner who never met you, and the closing move that converts goodwill into a dated, owned, real next step.
This is a second-level course. It assumes the basics are already yours — preparing for a call, opening it cleanly, asking basic questions, presenting basic features, asking for basic business — and it teaches what experienced sellers actually get wrong after the basics stop being the problem: discovery that stops at the first polite answer, proposals that read beautifully and decide nothing, objections answered too fast and therefore answered twice, and accounts won once and never grown.
One firm, one seller, one quarter. The whole course runs on Armitage Commercial, a fictional seller of commercial kitchen systems, its lead seller Maren Cole, and one quarter's pipeline stated in full — every worked dialogue and both capstones draw on that firm and that cast, in figures that never change from concept to concept, so you can recompute every number yourself.
It works in two movements. First, Module 1 — Reaching the Truth: Discovery, Questions, and Proof — work through Concepts 1–9, finishing with The Case Before the Ask; then, Module 2 — Converting the Truth: Presentation, Objections, and Commitment — work through Concepts 10–18, finishing with The Commitment and Growth Plan.
Both capstones produce real artifacts — The Case Before the Ask, a discovery and case plan for a live Armitage deal, the document a senior seller builds before asking anyone for anything; and The Commitment and Growth Plan, proposal logic, objection handling, closing steps, and the growth and referral moves that follow a win, for a second deal.
The honesty discipline is part of the course. No commercial selling system or branded method is named, and no research percentages, win-rates, or close-rate benchmarks are cited as findings: every figure is the running firm's own fictional ledger figure, stated once and restated identically, or arithmetic shown in full so you can check it with a pencil.
The course is self-paced and always on — roughly 30 minutes per concept, about 9 hours in full, taken in as many sittings as you like. You can type your answers, or talk out loud: the Voice Coach speaks its questions and listens to your spoken replies. Learners who already know the material can test out concept by concept.
This is the one hundred and ninety-eighth course in The Lighthouse Signature Series — the online counterpart to the one-day, in-person learning Cognosco Learning has delivered since 2002.

Every learner moves through the same discipline a Cognosco instructor would insist on in the room.
Diagnose
The Coach starts where the course starts: with what you actually bring. A seller cannot convert what he has not first understood — and buyers protect exactly the facts that decide the sale. Every concept opens with three questions that locate where you actually stand, and your answers shape how deeply the Coach works the concept with you. Everyone begins with Module 1 — no skipping the foundations you only think you have.
Learn & Practice
Work each concept in conversation with the Coach — spoken or written — then practice it against realistic situations until it holds up.
Prove
Every concept ends in proof: answer the check cold and demonstrate the skill. Know it already? Test out and take credit immediately.
Capstone
Finish with two capstones — The Case Before the Ask for Module 1 and The Commitment and Growth Plan for Module 2 — that pull the whole course together, and earn the certificate.
What You'll Learn
Truth before talk. No presentation, proposal, or close in this course is allowed to outrun the discovery underneath it — Module 1 builds the truth, and Module 2 is forbidden, by structure, from converting anything Module 1 has not earned.
Module 1 reaches the truth. Guarded buyers opened respectfully, questions layered to the operating fact, problems costed in the buyer's own numbers, one buyer's decision path mapped, and understanding played back and corrected while correction is cheap.
Module 2 converts it. Demonstration and presentation ordered by the buyer's tests, proposals a buyer can carry to someone who never met you, objections pre-empted and handled beyond the basics, price held without bluffing, and commitments closed as dated, owned steps.
And it finishes the sale twice. Growth is a second sale earned inside the first account's verified results, and a referral is engineered from a verified outcome — never begged, never bought with pressure.
What you will learn
- Run deep discovery with a guarded buyer and reach the operating facts behind polite answers
- Build layered question sequences that move from surface answers to costed consequences
- Cost a buyer's problem in the buyer's own numbers, without inventing figures
- Map one buyer's decision path — stake, money, and route to yes — and sell to the map
- Match evidence and demonstration to the specific doubt in the room
- Write proposals that decide — documents a buyer can carry to someone who never met you
- Handle objections by pre-emption, isolation, and reframing with evidence; hold price without bluffing; close for real commitments; grow accounts and engineer referrals

Built for experienced sellers
Experienced sellers whose basics are solid — whose remaining losses happen in the hard middle of deals: guarded buyers, vague answers, late objections, stalled commitments.
Sellers in shorter-cycle, individual-buyer sales — owners, chefs, managers, and households making serious purchases, in one or two conversations rather than a committee campaign; the committee method is a neighboring course's ground (Signature Course No. 194), and this course says plainly where it stops and that one starts.
Sales managers who still carry a book of business, and owner-sellers — who want a shared, exact vocabulary for the moves senior people actually make, and who cannot hand the hard conversations to anyone else.
