AI for Healthcare Professionals
Signature Course No. 251 — A Signature AI Socratic Coaching Course.
No experience needed — your coach starts where you are.
A New Kind of Learning
Socratic coaching, delivered by an agentic AI coach.
Not a course you watch. An AI coach you work with.
The Lighthouse Coach begins by discovering how you think about the subject, teaches what is missing, and gives you realistic practice before asking you to prove that you can use it. You may test out of concepts you already understand, while capstones turn the learning into a practical plan, decision, conversation, or other real-world result.
The curriculum is deliberately authored; the AI delivers it through coaching. It is not an AI randomly generating lessons.
A coach that teaches by asking — not by lecturing
The Lighthouse Coach is an AI Socratic coach built on Cognosco Learning's AI for Healthcare Professionals course, in the AI at Work category. It does not play videos at you. It holds a conversation: it asks you a question, listens to your answer, names the misconception it hears, affirms what you got right, and asks the next question — the way a great coach works in the room.
A clinic day now produces two kinds of work: the care itself, and a growing pile of writing and sorting around the care. Visit notes, summaries, patient messages, forms, referrals, schedules, and follow-up letters — and AI tools have arrived in the middle of that pile, promising to draft the note, summarize the chart, answer the message, and clear the queue. Some of that promise is real. Some of it is dangerous in ways that are specific to healthcare: a fluent sentence that invents a finding, a helpful summary that drops the one detail that mattered, a chat window that quietly receives information it should never have held. This course teaches you to take the real help and refuse the rest.
You start with what the tool actually does. A generative AI system produces new text in response to a prompt, word by word, each word a plausible continuation of what came before — built to produce text that reads as if it were right, with being right a separate event it cannot signal. So every output is read as a draft from a fast, fluent, uninformed assistant who was not in the room. Then the rule that governs all of it: no AI output touches care or the record until a qualified person has checked it against the source and chosen to stand behind it — compare against the source, hunt the additions and the omissions, decide as author. Signing is authorship. And the door: protected information enters approved tools only, through your work account, sharing the least the task needs — removing a name never de-identifies a note.
It works in two movements. First, Module 1 — Your Own Chair: AI Habits at Your Own Desk — work through Concepts 1–9, finishing with Your First Thirty Encounters; then, Module 2 — The Clinic as a System: Workflows and Norms Everyone Can Run — work through Concepts 10–18, finishing with The Calloway Ridge Rollout.
Both capstones produce real artifacts — your Personal AI Practice Standard, the one document you will actually work under; and the Clinic AI Workflow Pack — the approved-use map, the documentation standard, the patient notice, and the monitoring plan — written for your own clinic and ready to use on Monday.
The health boundary is part of the course, and it is absolute. This course teaches no diagnosis and no treatment. You will not find a clinical decision taught here — not which condition fits a set of symptoms, not which medicine or dose or plan is right for any patient. What it teaches is the work around care: drafting, documenting, communicating, and organizing — and the discipline that keeps AI help in that work from ever becoming clinical judgment by accident. AI output is always clinician-checked before it touches care or the record. It teaches no clinical content, and it is not a substitute for your employer's policies, your profession's standards, or legal advice — where those govern, this course teaches you to find and follow them, and to verify the current version before you act.
The course is self-paced and always on — roughly 30 minutes per concept, about 9 hours in full, taken in as many sittings as you like. You can type your answers, or talk out loud: the Voice Coach speaks its questions and listens to your spoken replies. Learners who already know the material can test out concept by concept.
AI for Healthcare Professionals is part of The Lighthouse Signature Series — the online counterpart to the one-day, in-person learning Cognosco Learning has delivered since 2002.

Diagnose → Learn & Practice → Prove → Capstone
Every learner moves through the same discipline a Cognosco instructor would insist on in the room.
Diagnose
The Coach starts where the course starts: with the tool itself. Before any output is trusted, settle what produced it — a language model generating plausible text, with no access to your patient, your chart, or the room it never sat in. Every concept opens with three questions that locate where you actually stand, and your answers shape how deeply the Coach works the concept with you. Everyone begins with Module 1 — no skipping the foundations you only think you have.
Learn & Practice
Work each concept in conversation with the Coach — spoken or written — then practice it against realistic situations until it holds up.
Prove
Every concept ends in proof: answer the check cold and demonstrate the skill. Know it already? Test out and take credit immediately.
Capstone
Finish with two capstones — Your First Thirty Encounters for Module 1 and The Calloway Ridge Rollout for Module 2 — that pull the whole course together, and earn the certificate.
What You'll Learn
Inside first, then outside. Module 1 builds the habits in the one place you fully control — your own desk, your own notes, your own messages. Module 2 earns its wider claims from that ground.
Module 1 builds the habits. Read the tool; hold the clinician-check rule without exception; guard the door for protected information; brief in five parts; document while the note stays yours; spot the confident error; write to patients in language you would sign aloud; count the time honestly; and set your personal stop rules in advance.
Module 2 builds the clinic. Jobs chosen by test rather than by tool; the approved-tools list kept honest; the shared documentation standard; the queue workflow designed at its joints; patients told the truth with their no honored; the work watched by sampling and thresholds; results divided for equity; change people can keep; and the standing standard maintained.
And it holds its boundary throughout. The check is the course: every concept, personal or clinic-wide, returns to one move — a qualified person reads AI output against the source and decides. Fluency is not evidence: polish, speed, and confidence are priced at zero, in your own checking, in your clinic's monitoring, and in every vendor claim you will ever read.
What you will learn
- Work safely at your own desk: read what an AI tool is really doing, hold the clinician-check rule without exception, and keep patient information behind the right door
- Do the four jobs well: brief the tool precisely, document with AI help while keeping the note yours, catch confident errors, and write to patients in language you would sign aloud
- Judge your own use honestly: count what AI actually saves you, and set personal stop rules in advance for what you will not delegate
- Carry the standard outward: choose clinic jobs fit for AI help, set shared documentation and communication workflows, tell patients the truth and honor their choices, monitor the work, check equity and access, lead the change, and maintain the clinic's standing standard

Built for the people in the room with the patient
Physicians and advanced practice clinicians who document their own visits and answer their own message queues, and want AI help that never costs them authorship of the record; and nurses and care staff who write assessments in note form, send patient instructions and follow-ups, and carry much of the clinic's daily communication load.
Clinic operations and admin staff who sort inboxes, prepare forms and letters, manage schedules, and are being handed AI tools with little guidance beyond a login; and any healthcare professional who has pasted, or been tempted to paste, patient information into a convenient tool — and wants a clear, workable line instead of a vague warning.
Team leads at the working level — the person colleagues ask "are we allowed to use this?" — who need answers they can defend, in plain language, at the moment of asking. This course assumes you work, or are about to work, in a care setting where AI tools are available or arriving, and assumes no technical background.

Before you enroll
What is a Socratic coaching session?
A conversation, not a video. Your coach asks a question; you answer — out loud by voice, or by typing — and the coach responds to what you said: naming the misconception it hears, affirming what you got right, and asking the next question. You advance only when you have mastered each concept, so a finished course means the learning held.
How long does it take — and how long do I have?
About 30 minutes per concept. Learn in sittings of any length; your progress is saved as you go. You have a full year from purchase to finish, and you can revisit and retake within that year.
What does the certificate verify?
That you completed every concept and both capstones of this course. Anyone can confirm a Cognosco certificate online — enter its certificate ID on our verification page.
What if it isn't for me — what are the refunds?
If you have not started, cancel for a full refund within seven days of purchase. Once you have started, there is no cash refund — stop before finishing and we credit the full amount you paid toward any other course in the library (credit valid one year from your original purchase). Once you complete the course, no refund or credit applies.
