AI for Operations & Process Improvement
Signature Course No. 56 — A Signature AI Socratic Coaching Course.
A New Kind of Learning
Socratic coaching, delivered by an agentic AI coach.
Not a course you watch. An AI coach you work with.
The Lighthouse Coach begins by discovering how you think about the subject, teaches what is missing, and gives you realistic practice before asking you to prove that you can use it. You may test out of concepts you already understand, while capstones turn the learning into a practical plan, decision, conversation, or other real-world result.
The curriculum is deliberately authored; the AI delivers it through coaching. It is not an AI randomly generating lessons.
A coach that teaches by asking — not by lecturing
The Lighthouse Coach is an AI Socratic coach built on Cognosco Learning's AI for Operations & Process Improvement course, in the AI at Work category. It does not play videos at you. It holds a conversation: it asks you a question, listens to your answer, names the misconception it hears, affirms what you got right, and asks the next question — the way a great coach works in the room.
This is the course for operations managers who own a working process, process owners and operations leads, continuous-improvement practitioners, and team leads who run the process day to day. It works in the order the work has to happen: first, Module 1 — Seeing and Redesigning: The Process As It Runs, and Where AI Belongs in It — work through Concepts 1–9, finishing with The Process Redesign; then, Module 2 — Running It Well: Quality, Exceptions, Standard Work, and the Operator's Discipline — work through Concepts 10–18, finishing with The Bad Week, Run Well. You finish by proving the whole course — in The Process Redesign and in The Bad Week, Run Well. You can type your answers, or talk out loud: the Voice Coach speaks its questions and listens to your spoken replies, hands-free. The course is self- paced and always on — roughly 30 minutes per concept, about 9 hours in full, taken in as many sittings as you like. Learners who already know the material can test out concept by concept.
The fences, stated plainly. This course is vendor-neutral — it names no product as the answer, recommends no platform, and repeats no vendor claim as fact. A human owns every output and every step: a process that cannot name the human who owns a step does not have an automation opportunity; it has an accountability hole. And the course makes no invented efficiency figures and no outcome promises — sometimes the right answer is to fix the process first, and sometimes the right answer is not to automate a step at all. The signature is the course's own: this course works on one real process you own. One rule protects that signature, and it is absolute: do not share anything you are not free to share — change the names, change the figures, keep the shape of the problem. Both capstones produce real artifacts — a redesign ready to build from and an operating standard ready to run by — not just ideas about improvement.
This is the fifty-sixth course in The Lighthouse Signature Series — the online counterpart to the one-day, in-person training Cognosco Learning has delivered since 2002.

Every learner moves through the same discipline a Cognosco instructor would insist on in the room.
See the Process
The Coach starts with your process as it actually runs — not the manual, not the flowchart on the wall — the steps, handoffs, and queues real cases move through, the workarounds nobody documented, and the baseline nobody has honestly counted. Most process improvement with AI fails before any tool is opened, because the process was never seen clearly first. Everyone begins with Module 1 — no skipping the foundations you only think you have.
Learn & Practice
Work each concept in conversation with the Coach — spoken or written — then practice it against realistic situations until it holds up.
Prove
Every concept ends in proof: answer the check cold and demonstrate the skill. Know it already? Test out and take credit immediately.
Capstone
Finish with two capstones — The Process Redesign for Module 1 and The Bad Week, Run Well for Module 2 — that pull the whole course together, and earn the certificate.
What You'll Learn
Most process improvement with AI fails before any tool is opened — not because the tool could do nothing useful, but because the process it was pointed at was never actually seen: the manual describes one process, the floor runs another, and the difference lives in workarounds, memory, and two or three people's private knowledge. This course teaches the operator's discipline in order: see the process as it runs and count its honest baseline; decide step by step where a tool genuinely fits and where a step must stay human, on the data the process actually feeds on; redesign with the tool inside the workflow, checkpoints where errors are caught cheapest, and exceptions routed for the bad day; then run the improved process well — quality sampled to a written standard, errors contained, small experiments before any rollout, standard work a stranger could run, drift watched, and automation refused where refusal is the right call. Your own process is the course material throughout: bring one real process, anonymized, and leave with its redesign written and its operating standard signed.
What you will learn
- See and map a process as it actually runs — steps, handoffs, and queues visible, friction found, and an honest baseline taken before anything changes
- Decide where AI genuinely fits and where it must not go — step by step, on the data the process actually feeds on, with the steps that stay human named and defended
- Redesign with checkpoints, exception routes, and quality control built in — errors contained, a way back kept, and small experiments run before any rollout
- Run the improved process day to day — standard work written, operators taught to capability, drift watched for, and automation refused where refusal is the right call
Everything in the course

Built for the person who owns the process
AI for Operations & Process Improvement is for operations managers who own a working process — orders, claims, scheduling, fulfillment, intake, approvals, billing, dispatch, or any flow of cases from arrival to done — and are putting AI into it, or being told to, process owners and operations leads — who know their process runs on workarounds, memory, and two or three people's private knowledge, and who need to make it visible before they change it, continuous-improvement practitioners — whose methods were built before these tools existed, who need to add tool judgment to process judgment without surrendering either, and team leads who run the process day to day — who will live with the checkpoints, the exceptions, and the bad weeks, and who therefore deserve a redesign designed for the bad week, not the launch day.
The fences and the signature apply here, too. This course is vendor-neutral, a human owns every output and every step, and it makes no invented efficiency figures and no outcome promises — and it works on one real process you own: anonymize every real process before you bring it in — change the names, change the figures, keep the shape of the problem — and leave with its redesign written and its operating standard ready. The course assumes you own, run, or can closely observe a real process. It does not assume a technical background, a data team, or any particular tool.
