Bookkeeping Certification Readiness

Signature Course No. 277 — A Signature AI Socratic Coaching Course.

No experience needed — your coach starts where you are.

An agentic, mastery-based AI learning platform.

A New Kind of Learning

Socratic coaching, delivered by an agentic AI coach.

Not a course you watch. An AI coach you work with.

The Lighthouse Coach begins by discovering how you think about the subject, teaches what is missing, and gives you realistic practice before asking you to prove that you can use it. You may test out of concepts you already understand, while capstones turn the learning into a practical plan, decision, conversation, or other real-world result.

The curriculum is deliberately authored; the AI delivers it through coaching. It is not an AI randomly generating lessons.

Meet The Lighthouse Coach

A coach that teaches by asking — not by lecturing

The Lighthouse Coach is an AI Socratic coach built on Cognosco Learning's Bookkeeping Certification Readiness course, in the Sales, Service & Revenue category. It does not play videos at you. It holds a conversation: it asks you a question, listens to your answer, names the misconception it hears, affirms what you got right, and asks the next question — the way a great coach works in the room.

A bookkeeping examination does not ask you to admire accounting. It presents a small business in a short paragraph — a sale on account, a bank statement that disagrees with the ledger, a payroll that must be recorded before Friday — and asks what the books should show. This course prepares you for the bookkeeping certification offered through Intuit Academy, at the depth its published standard tests.

Module 1 teaches the cycle whole. The examination itself first, then the accounting equation and account types, the journal, the ledger, the trial balance — taught with precision about what it proves and what it cannot prove — adjusting entries, the statements built in their required order, closing, and the source documents and controls underneath everything, all run end to end on one client's real month: Copper Kettle Catering's March, tying out at every station.

Module 2 teaches the working territories. Bank reconciliation to an adjusted balance, receivables and the allowance, inventory and cost of goods sold derived from a count, long-lived assets and depreciation, payroll recorded at the gross to its full destinations, liabilities, and equity in its several forms — then the course turns on the candidate: practice evidence read by domain, every miss repaired at its reasoning, and the booking decision made on evidence rather than hope.

It works in two movements. First, Module 1 — The Cycle Whole: From Source Document to Closed Books — work through Concepts 1–9, finishing with The Closed March Packet; then, Module 2 — The Working Territories and the Proof: Reconciliation, Assets, Payroll, and Sitting the Exam Well — work through Concepts 10–18, finishing with The Readiness Dossier and the Booking Call.

Both capstones produce real artifacts — the Closed March Packet, a complete proved set of books for one month of one business, tying out at every station; and the Readiness Dossier, a messier client's month corrected and proved figure by figure, bound with a candidate's practice evidence and the booking decision it supports.

The readiness discipline is part of the course. This is readiness, not a result: no guarantee of any examination outcome, no promise that any reader will pass, and no claim about scores, pass rates, jobs, promotions, or pay. Examination facts are reported as published at the time of writing and verified against the publisher's current pages before you book; every figure in the course is a stipulated teaching figure whose arithmetic you can recompute yourself.

The course is self-paced and always on — roughly 30 minutes per concept, about 9 hours in full, taken in as many sittings as you like. You can type your answers, or talk out loud: the Voice Coach speaks its questions and listens to your spoken replies. Learners who already know the material can test out concept by concept.

Bookkeeping Certification Readiness is part of The Lighthouse Signature Series — the online counterpart to the one-day, in-person learning Cognosco Learning has delivered since 2002.

The Method

Diagnose → Learn & Practice → Prove → Capstone

Every learner moves through the same discipline a Cognosco instructor would insist on in the room.

1

Diagnose

The Coach starts where the course starts: with what you actually bring. Your daily work has taught you the parts of bookkeeping your clients use; the examination tests the whole published domain, including the territories your work never touches. Every concept opens with three questions that locate where you actually stand, and your answers shape how deeply the Coach works the concept with you. Everyone begins with Module 1 — no skipping the foundations you only think you have.

2

Learn & Practice

Work each concept in conversation with the Coach — spoken or written — then practice it against realistic situations until it holds up.

3

Prove

Every concept ends in proof: answer the check cold and demonstrate the skill. Know it already? Test out and take credit immediately.

4

Capstone

Finish with two capstones — The Closed March Packet for Module 1 and The Readiness Dossier and the Booking Call for Module 2 — that pull the whole course together, and earn the certificate.

The Course Content

What You'll Learn

Prove it, then say so. Every figure in the course ties out — every trial balance balancing, every statement footing, every reconciliation reconciling — with the arithmetic shown so you can recompute it yourself.

Module 1 builds the cycle. Equation, journal, ledger, proof, adjustment, statements in order, closing, and the documents underneath — one chain, carried whole on Copper Kettle's March.

Module 2 builds the territories. Reconciliation, receivables, inventory, depreciation, payroll, liabilities, and equity at examination depth — on Fern Hollow Garden Center's messier books.

And it leaves you a dossier. A corrected set of books and an evidence-based booking call — the readiness judgment you can defend, including the judgment, when the evidence says so, to delay booking and study longer.

What you will learn

  • State the examination's published structure — domains, format, delivery, and terms — as published at the time of writing, and verify the current facts before booking
  • Run the full accounting cycle on a small business: journalize, post, prove with a trial balance, adjust, build the statements in order, and close
  • Say exactly what a trial balance proves and what it cannot prove, and hunt each class of error by its signature
  • Reconcile a bank account to an adjusted balance and record only the entries the reconciliation actually requires
  • Account for receivables, uncollectible accounts, inventory and cost of goods sold, long-lived assets and depreciation, payroll, liabilities, and equity — each at examination depth
  • Prove readiness: read questions by governing concept, diagnose practice scores by domain, and make the booking decision on evidence

Who It's For

Built for people who keep the books

Working bookkeepers and accounting clerks — who keep books daily and want the credential that certifies the knowledge their work already uses, examined to a published standard.

Staff at bookkeeping and accounting practices — whose employers ask for a portable, verifiable credential alongside experience.

Career changers with some numbers fluency, and candidates returning after a disappointing attempt — office administrators, payroll assistants, and operations staff whose next role is a bookkeeping seat, and returning candidates who need diagnosis by domain rather than more hours of the same study. The course assumes ordinary business arithmetic, shown with its working wherever a figure is built, no prior credential, and no particular software.

Good Questions

Before you enroll

What is a Socratic coaching session?

A conversation, not a video. Your coach asks a question; you answer — out loud by voice, or by typing — and the coach responds to what you said: naming the misconception it hears, affirming what you got right, and asking the next question. You advance only when you have mastered each concept, so a finished course means the learning held.

How long does it take — and how long do I have?

About 30 minutes per concept. Learn in sittings of any length; your progress is saved as you go. You have a full year from purchase to finish, and you can revisit and retake within that year.

What does the certificate verify?

That you completed every concept and both capstones of this course. Anyone can confirm a Cognosco certificate online — enter its certificate ID on our verification page.

What if it isn't for me — what are the refunds?

If you have not started, cancel for a full refund within seven days of purchase. Once you have started, there is no cash refund — stop before finishing and we credit the full amount you paid toward any other course in the library (credit valid one year from your original purchase). Once you complete the course, no refund or credit applies.
