Budget & Managing Money

Signature Course No. 21 — A Signature AI Socratic Coaching Course.

An agentic, mastery-based AI learning platform.

A New Kind of Learning

Socratic coaching, delivered by an agentic AI coach.

Not a course you watch. An AI coach you work with.

The Lighthouse Coach begins by discovering how you think about the subject, teaches what is missing, and gives you realistic practice before asking you to prove that you can use it. You may test out of concepts you already understand, while capstones turn the learning into a practical plan, decision, conversation, or other real-world result.

The curriculum is deliberately authored; the AI delivers it through coaching. It is not an AI randomly generating lessons.

Meet The Lighthouse Coach

A coach that teaches by asking — not by lecturing

The Lighthouse Coach is an AI Socratic coach built on Cognosco Learning's Budget & Managing Money course, in the Business Development category. It does not play videos at you. It holds a conversation: it asks you a question, listens to your answer, names the misconception it hears, affirms what you got right, and asks the next question — the way a great coach works in the room.

This is the course for anyone who wants to take control of their money — a personal or household budget, a department budget, or the finances of a small business. The course works in the order the work actually happens: first, see the money as it really is — build a budget that reflects your priorities, track where the money goes, manage cash flow so the surprises get smaller, and find the spending that serves nothing; then, read and plan — learn to read basic financial statements with confidence, set financial goals, and put a plan for them down on paper. You finish by proving the whole course — in The Real Budget and in The Plan on Paper. You can type your answers, or talk out loud: the Voice Coach speaks its questions and listens to your spoken replies, hands-free. The course is self-paced and always on — roughly 30 minutes per concept, about 9 hours in full, taken in as many sittings as you like. Learners who already know the material can test out concept by concept.

The fences, stated plainly. First, the education fence: this is financial education, not financial advice. It teaches how to run a budget and read statements — how money is organized, tracked, and planned — never what to buy, sell, or invest in. No financial products are named, and no returns are promised. Second, the professional fence: tax specifics belong to a tax professional, and a learner who needs advice for their own situation needs a licensed professional. The course teaches the skills and the vocabulary, so you can do the work on your own budget and ask better questions of the professionals you choose; it does not stand in for advice fitted to one person's finances.

This is the twenty-first course in The Lighthouse Signature Series — the online counterpart to the one-day, in-person training Cognosco Learning has delivered since 2002.

The Method

Map First → Learn & Practice → Prove → Capstone

Every learner moves through the same discipline a Cognosco instructor would insist on in the room.

1

Map First

The Coach starts by finding out what you already know and how you handle your money today. Everyone begins with Module 1 — no skipping the foundations you only think you have.

2

Learn & Practice

Work each concept in conversation with the Coach — spoken or written — then practice it against realistic situations until it holds up.

3

Prove

Every concept ends in proof: answer the check cold and demonstrate the skill. Know it already? Test out and take credit immediately.

4

Capstone

Finish with two capstones — The Real Budget for Module 1 and The Plan on Paper for Module 2 — that pull the whole course together, and earn the certificate.

Who It's For

Built for individuals and teams

Budget & Managing Money is for anyone who runs a budget, or wants to — individuals and households taking control of their own finances, managers responsible for a department budget, and small-business owners who need to read their own numbers: build and manage a personal or business budget, understand key financial statements, identify and eliminate unnecessary spending, and plan for financial goals with confidence.

The fences apply here, too. This is financial education, not financial advice: the course teaches how to run a budget and read statements, never what to buy, sell, or invest in. No financial products are named, and no returns are promised. Tax specifics belong to a tax professional, and a learner who needs advice for their own situation needs a licensed professional.
