Signature Course No. 145 — A Signature AI Socratic Coaching Course.

An agentic, mastery-based AI learning platform.

A New Kind of Learning

Socratic coaching, delivered by an agentic AI coach.

Not a course you watch. An AI coach you work with.

The Lighthouse Coach begins by discovering how you think about the subject, teaches what is missing, and gives you realistic practice before asking you to prove that you can use it. You may test out of concepts you already understand, while capstones turn the learning into a practical plan, decision, conversation, or other real-world result.

The curriculum is deliberately authored; the AI delivers it through coaching. It is not an AI randomly generating lessons.

Meet The Lighthouse Coach

A coach that teaches by asking — not by lecturing

The Lighthouse Coach is an AI Socratic coach built on Cognosco Learning's Business Analysis Foundations course, in the Leadership & Management category. It does not play videos at you. It holds a conversation: it asks you a question, listens to your answer, names the misconception it hears, affirms what you got right, and asks the next question — the way a great coach works in the room.

This is the course for business analysts — new to the role or self-taught in it — for project and product staff who commission, approve, or live with requirements written by others, for subject-matter experts and team leads asked to hand over their requirements, and for builders and testers moving toward analysis.

It works on one running project, end to end. You follow one analyst and one project from the first stakeholder search to the signed baseline — every list, model, tally, and capstone built from the same case facts, so you learn to hold a whole project in mind at once and check every count against its source.

Module 1 teaches the hearing: Finding and Understanding the Need — Concepts 1–9, finishing with The Elicitation and Analysis Pack. Module 2 teaches the governing: Writing and Governing the Set — Concepts 10–18, finishing with The Governed Baseline.

A requirement is a decision made explicit. You learn to write each one so a builder can build from it and a tester can verify it by a named check — and to show where it came from, what it traces to, and what it costs to change.

The course is self-paced and always on — roughly 30 minutes per concept, about 9 hours in full, taken in as many sittings as you like. Learners who already know the material can test out concept by concept. You can type your answers, or talk out loud: the Voice Coach speaks its questions and listens to your spoken replies, hands-free.

Every figure is checkable. The case counts are stated once and held constant wherever they travel, and every tally in the course can be recomputed from its components. Where a figure is an estimate, it is labeled an estimate — and stays labeled.

Both capstones produce real artifacts — a complete elicitation and analysis pack a sponsor could approve, and a governed requirements baseline a builder could build from — written to be usable on a real project, not just filed in the course.

This is the one hundred and forty-fifth course in The Lighthouse Signature Series — the online counterpart to the one-day, in-person learning Cognosco Learning has delivered since 2002.

The Method

Diagnose → Learn & Practice → Prove → Capstone

Every learner moves through the same discipline a Cognosco instructor would insist on in the room.

1

Diagnose

The Coach starts where the course starts: with the analyst's job itself. A project cannot build what it never truly heard — but it will confidently build what it misheard. Every concept opens with three questions that locate where you actually stand, and your answers shape how deeply the Coach works the concept with you. Everyone begins with Module 1 — no skipping the foundations you only think you have.

2

Learn & Practice

Work each concept in conversation with the Coach — spoken or written — then practice it against realistic situations until it holds up.

3

Prove

Every concept ends in proof: answer the check cold and demonstrate the skill. Know it already? Test out and take credit immediately.

4

Capstone

Finish with two capstones — The Elicitation and Analysis Pack for Module 1 and The Governed Baseline for Module 2 — that pull the whole course together, and earn the certificate.

The Course Content

What You'll Learn

Every failed project tells its story twice: once in the post-mortem, where the causes sound exotic — the vendor, the technology, the deadline — and once in its requirements, where the causes were ordinary and visible from the start.

The person who would use the system was never asked; the person who was asked described a solution instead of a need; the need that mattered most was written in words no one could test; the change that broke the schedule was agreed in a corridor and never recorded.

This course teaches the discipline that prevents that second story. You will learn to find everyone who can approve, block, use, or quietly defeat a change; to draw real needs out of interviews, workshops, observation, and documents without leading the witness; to analyze what you heard — sorting need from solution, modeling the process as it is and as it must become, and naming the data and the rules the system must honor.

Then you will learn to write requirements another person can build from and a tester can verify, to organize and prioritize them with the stakeholders who must live with the trade-offs, to trace each one from the objective that justifies it to the test that proves it, to tell verification from validation and run both gates, to baseline a set people actually agreed to, to govern every change to it in the open, and to hand the set over so builders, testers, and the people who will use the system can each do their work from it.

The craft is unglamorous and decisive: projects rarely fail for lack of cleverness. They fail for lack of an honest, checkable record of what was needed.

What you will learn

  • Identify every stakeholder who can approve, block, use, or defeat a change — and analyze what each one truly needs
  • Elicit needs through interviews, workshops, observation, and documents — choosing the method that fits the question
  • Analyze and model what you heard: process, data, and rules, in current and future states
  • Write requirements that are clear, complete enough to build from, and verifiable by a named check
  • Organize, prioritize, and trace the set — every requirement earning its place from objective to test
  • Verify and validate: confirm the set is built right and that it is the right set
  • Baseline, govern change, and hand the set over so build, test, and adoption can each proceed from it

Who It's For

Built for the person who owns the record of what is needed

Business Analysis Foundations is for business analysts — new to the role or self-taught in it — who gather and write requirements now and want the full discipline behind the parts they already do by instinct, project and product staff — coordinators, owners, and managers — who commission, approve, or live with requirements written by others, and who need to judge whether a set deserves their signature,

subject-matter experts and team leads — dispatchers, supervisors, clinicians, clerks, engineers — who are asked to give the analyst their requirements and want to give needs that survive contact with builders and testers, and builders and testers moving toward analysis.

This is a Leadership & Management course. It assumes experience of working inside an organization — meetings, processes, systems you did not choose — and no prior analysis method. If you can describe how work actually flows in a place you know, you have everything this course requires to start.
