Cloud Foundations for Business Teams

Signature Course No. 150 — A Signature AI Socratic Coaching Course.

An agentic, mastery-based AI learning platform.

A New Kind of Learning

Socratic coaching, delivered by an agentic AI coach.

Not a course you watch. An AI coach you work with.

The Lighthouse Coach begins by discovering how you think about the subject, teaches what is missing, and gives you realistic practice before asking you to prove that you can use it. You may test out of concepts you already understand, while capstones turn the learning into a practical plan, decision, conversation, or other real-world result.

The curriculum is deliberately authored; the AI delivers it through coaching. It is not an AI randomly generating lessons.

Meet The Lighthouse Coach

A coach that teaches by asking — not by lecturing

The Lighthouse Coach is an AI Socratic coach built on Cognosco Learning's Cloud Foundations for Business Teams course, in the Personal Effectiveness & Well-Being category. It does not play videos at you. It holds a conversation: it asks you a question, listens to your answer, names the misconception it hears, affirms what you got right, and asks the next question — the way a great coach works in the room.

This is the course for owners and founders whose businesses already depend on cloud services they chose quickly — for operations and office managers who are handed the provider accounts, the bills, and the 9 a.m. outage — for finance-facing managers who approve cloud spend — and for team leads in non-technical businesses who must choose services, brief providers, and answer for data and continuity to their own customers.

It works in two movements. First, Module 1 — Seeing the Cloud Clearly — work through Concepts 1–9, finishing with The Move-or-Stay Read; then, Module 2 — Governing an Estate You Can Trust — work through Concepts 10–18, finishing with The Governed Estate Plan.

You finish by proving the whole course — in The Move-or-Stay Read and in The Governed Estate Plan. You can type your answers, or talk out loud: the Voice Coach speaks its questions and listens to your spoken replies, hands-free. Explaining a bill to an owner or walking staff through an outage are spoken acts, and this course lets you practice them that way.

The course is self-paced and always on — roughly 30 minutes per concept, about 9 hours in full, taken in as many sittings as you like. Learners who already know the material can test out concept by concept.

This course teaches cloud literacy for the people who own business outcomes. You will not learn to administer a server or write code — that is not the job here. You will learn what you rent and what you still own, why the bill behaves the way it does, who is responsible for security on each side of the line, and how to govern an estate of cloud services the way you govern any other serious supplier relationship: with named owners, written terms, reviewed bills, and an exit you have actually read. Every worked example uses round teaching figures you can recompute by hand, so you learn the mechanic — not a price list.

Both capstones produce real artifacts — a move-or-stay read an owner could act on, and a governed estate plan an owner can sign and hold people to — written to be used on the real job, not just filed in the course.

This is the one hundred and fiftieth course in The Lighthouse Signature Series — the online counterpart to the one-day, in-person learning Cognosco Learning has delivered since 2002.

The Method

Diagnose → Learn & Practice → Prove → Capstone

Every learner moves through the same discipline a Cognosco instructor would insist on in the room.

1

Diagnose

The Coach starts where the course starts: with the picture itself. The cloud is not weather. It is a landlord, a meter, and a contract — and you can learn all three. Every concept opens with three questions that locate where you actually stand, and your answers shape how deeply the Coach works the concept with you. Everyone begins with Module 1 — no skipping the foundations you only think you have.

2

Learn & Practice

Work each concept in conversation with the Coach — spoken or written — then practice it against realistic situations until it holds up.

3

Prove

Every concept ends in proof: answer the check cold and demonstrate the skill. Know it already? Test out and take credit immediately.

4

Capstone

Finish with two capstones — The Move-or-Stay Read for Module 1 and The Governed Estate Plan for Module 2 — that pull the whole course together, and earn the certificate.

The Course Content

What You'll Learn

Almost every business now runs, in part, on computers it does not own, in buildings it will never visit, under agreements most of its managers have never read. Email lives there. Files live there. The till, the rota, the customer records, the online shop — piece by piece, the working machinery of an ordinary business has moved onto rented computing, and the move happened faster than most business teams' understanding of it. This course closes that gap.

You will learn what the cloud actually is beneath the marketing word, how the three service models divide work between you and a provider, where your data physically lives and why that matters, and how migration choices differ — because “move to the cloud” is not one decision but at least four, with different costs and different risks.

Then you will follow the money: how metered billing really works, where waste hides, and how a business team keeps a rented estate under control.

You will learn the shared-responsibility line — what a provider secures and what remains stubbornly yours — what reliability and backup promises actually mean in minutes and hours, and how to read an agreement, judge lock-in, choose between one provider and several, watch an estate through bills and dashboards people actually read, and run an incident morning without panic. The course closes by making governance personal: a standard a business owner can hold, in writing, without becoming an engineer.

What you will learn

  • Explain what the cloud is, how the service and deployment models differ, and what each model leaves in your hands
  • Judge whether and how a workload should move — lift, rework, replace, or retire — in business terms
  • Read cloud cost mechanics, find waste, and run basic cost control a business team can sustain
  • State the shared-responsibility line for security, access, and data — and govern your side of it
  • Interpret reliability, backup, and continuity promises in minutes, hours, and recovery terms
  • Read provider agreements, service levels, and exit terms before signing — and judge lock-in honestly
  • Govern a running cloud estate: watch it, review it, handle incidents, and hold a written standard

Who It's For

Built for the people who own business outcomes

Cloud Foundations for Business Teams is for owners and founders whose businesses already depend on cloud services they chose quickly and now need to understand, govern, and budget honestly — for operations and office managers who are handed the provider accounts, the bills, and the 9 a.m. outage — for finance-facing managers who approve cloud spend and need to know why a rented bill rises and where it leaks,

and for team leads in non-technical businesses — retail, hospitality, professional services, trades, care, and light manufacturing — who must choose services, brief providers, and answer for data and continuity to their own customers.

This is a Personal Effectiveness & Well-Being course. It assumes ordinary business experience and comfort with everyday arithmetic. It assumes no engineering background, no coding, and no prior study of computing infrastructure. If you can read an invoice and run a meeting, you have everything this course requires to start — the rest is built here, concept by concept, on one business you will come to know well.
