Agile Project Management

About This Course

Some projects begin with most of what matters already known: the deliverable is understood, the path to it is established, and the work is to execute a sound plan with discipline. Other projects begin with the opposite condition — the deliverable is only partly understood, the people who will use it cannot fully describe what they need until they see something real, and the plan written in January is fiction by March. Agile project management exists for the second condition. It replaces the single large delivery, planned in detail up front and revealed at the end, with a rhythm of small finished deliveries: an increment of real, usable work, produced in a short fixed cycle, shown to the people it serves, and used to steer what happens next. This course teaches that rhythm as a craft. You will learn how work is held in a single ordered backlog and shaped into pieces small enough to finish; how a sprint is planned around a goal rather than packed to capacity; how a team coordinates daily without turning coordination into surveillance; how increments are reviewed with stakeholders and how the team's own way of working is examined and improved. Then you will learn the judgment layer that separates practitioners from ceremony-keepers: how flow methods handle work that never arrives in projects at all, how agile teams operate inside organizations that still run on milestones and fixed budgets, how several teams coordinate without building a command center, which measurements tell the truth about a team's work and which merely flatter it, the named failure modes that turn agile into relabeled chaos, and the situations — fixed scope, hard regulation, genuine one-shot work — where the honest professional chooses a different method and can say why. By the end of this program you will have run a complete agile cycle on a realistic project, made and defended a fit decision on a mixed portfolio of work, and written the working agreement you will actually operate by.

What You'll Learn

  • Run the full agile cycle — shape a backlog, plan and run a sprint, hold a useful standup, review real increments with stakeholders, and retrospect honestly
  • Shape and size work so it can actually be finished — stories, thin slices, acceptance criteria, and estimation that admits what it does not know
  • Work beyond the single sprint team when the work demands it — Kanban flow, hybrid organizations, and coordination across teams — choosing the method to fit the work
  • Judge agile with clear eyes — name its failure modes, refuse it where it does not fit, and work by a written agreement you can defend
