About This Course
Most career conversations fail in one of two directions. In the first, the manager turns coach into cheerleader: everything is possible, every strength is remarkable, every gap will somehow take care of itself, and the person leaves warmed and entirely unhelped. In the second, the manager turns coach into gatekeeper: the conversation becomes a quiet negotiation about a promotion the manager may not even control, conducted in hints, and the person leaves having learned to bargain instead of to grow. This course teaches the third way. You will learn to open a career conversation honestly, elicit what a person actually wants and test it against evidence, state strengths with proof and gaps with kindness and precision, draw the honest map of how advancement actually works in your organization, and build growth mostly through real work — the assignment that stretches, the exposure that teaches, the practice that compounds — rather than through courses about growth. You will learn to carry the work across a year: plans that survive the calendar, check-ins that keep the thread, and the harder conversations this discipline eventually requires — the plateau, the stalled career, the sideways move that is the right move, the departure coached well, and the setback met without false comfort. By the end, you will hold a written standard for career coaching that you can be held to, by the people you coach and by yourself.
