Documentation & Recordkeeping for Managers

About This Course

Most workplace records fail in the same quiet way: they were written later than they claim, softer or harder than the truth, or only about the parts their writer wanted remembered. The conversation that mattered was never written down at all. The note that does exist reads like a verdict — lazy, difficult, not a team player — with none of the observable facts that would let a fair reader judge for himself. This course teaches the other way of keeping records. You will learn why records exist and who they protect, how to write at the time rather than from memory, how to put facts on the page instead of verdicts, and how to record conversations, ordinary events, and decisions completely — what was said, what was agreed, what was decided, and what was deliberately left open. By the end of this program, you will have a written standard for your own recordkeeping, stated as checkable habits, and a file you could hand to a stranger — an auditor, a successor, the employee himself — and stand behind every page.

What You'll Learn

  • Write the record at the time, in facts rather than verdicts, so it can stand alone
  • Record conversations, events, and decisions completely — what was said, agreed, decided, and left open
  • Keep the record clean — correct it openly, store it in one home, and control who reads and receives it
  • Hold the line under pressure — retain and dispose of by the schedule, route disputes and requests, and make honest documentation your team's ordinary habit
