About This Course
Most floor leaders did not set out to teach anybody anything about safety. They set out to run a shift and get their people home in the condition they arrived in. But teaching is what the job does whether the leader intends it or not. Every shift, the team watches the one person whose behavior tells them what is actually true here — what gets noticed, what gets thanked, what gets corrected, and what gets quietly allowed when the day is busy. A leader who walks past a problem three times has taught a lesson no toolbox talk will undo. This course teaches the other kind of teaching, deliberately. You will learn to set a visible standard in your own behavior, to run the short conversations that set a shift, to make stopping work and reporting near-misses genuinely safe, to correct a shortcut without humiliating the person who took it, to watch closest over the workers who know your floor least, and to build the small system — learning without blame, hazards followed until they close, one standard under pressure — that keeps the standard standing when you are not in the room. By the end, you will have a complete, honest way of leading safety on a floor: not procedures, which this book does not teach and your employer's program already governs, but leadership behaviors you can name, practice, and sign your name to.
