Creative Thinking Tools for Teams
Signature Course No. 172 — A Signature AI Socratic Coaching Course.
A New Kind of Learning
Socratic coaching, delivered by an agentic AI coach.
Not a course you watch. An AI coach you work with.
The Lighthouse Coach begins by discovering how you think about the subject, teaches what is missing, and gives you realistic practice before asking you to prove that you can use it. You may test out of concepts you already understand, while capstones turn the learning into a practical plan, decision, conversation, or other real-world result.
The curriculum is deliberately authored; the AI delivers it through coaching. It is not an AI randomly generating lessons.
A coach that teaches by asking — not by lecturing
The Lighthouse Coach is an AI Socratic coach built on Cognosco Learning's Creative Thinking Tools for Teams course, in the Personal Effectiveness & Well-Being category. It does not play videos at you. It holds a conversation: it asks you a question, listens to your answer, names the misconception it hears, affirms what you got right, and asks the next question — the way a great coach works in the room.
This is the course for team leads and managers who run planning, problem-solving, and improvement sessions and need more than one default move in the toolkit — a named technique for each job a creative session must do, chosen on purpose and run as written.
It is also for facilitators and project leads who are handed a brief and a room and must design a session that produces usable output, not energy and noise — and for product, operations, and service teams whose work repeatedly demands new options under real limits.
Module 1 — Open It Up — works through Concepts 1–9, finishing with The Generation Plan: choose the move the brief actually needs, keep making and judging apart, prepare the brief and the inputs, and run six generation tools in full — silent generation, structured speaking rounds, analogy, reversal, the lens checklist, and provocation.
Module 2 — Narrow It Down, Build It Up, Carry It Forward — works through Concepts 10–18, finishing with The Full Session Arc: cluster a field into its true shape, agree criteria before votes, test finalists from every seat, build with combination charts, sketches, and quick mocks, and close with a decision that is owned, dated, and reviewable.
You finish by proving the whole course — in The Generation Plan and in The Full Session Arc. You can type your answers, or talk out loud: the Voice Coach speaks its questions and listens to your spoken replies, hands-free.
The course is self-paced and always on — roughly 30 minutes per concept, about 9 hours in full, taken in as many sittings as you like. Learners who already know the material can test out concept by concept.
Both capstones produce real artifacts — a complete generation plan for a live brief, and a full session arc from brief to owned next steps — written to be usable in a real session the following week, not just filed in the course.
This is the one hundred and seventy-second course in The Lighthouse Signature Series — the online counterpart to the one-day, in-person learning Cognosco Learning has delivered since 2002.
Course Facts
Diagnose → Learn & Practice → Prove → Capstone
Every learner moves through the same discipline a Cognosco instructor would insist on in the room.
Diagnose
The Coach starts where the course starts: with the brief before the technique. A team does not need more creative people. It needs the right tool, run properly, at the right moment. Every concept opens with three questions that locate where you actually stand, and your answers shape how deeply the Coach works the concept with you. Everyone begins with Module 1 — no skipping the foundations you only think you have.
Learn & Practice
Work each concept in conversation with the Coach — spoken or written — then practice it against realistic situations until it holds up.
Prove
Every concept ends in proof: answer the check cold and demonstrate the skill. Know it already? Test out and take credit immediately.
Capstone
Finish with two capstones — The Generation Plan for Module 1 and The Full Session Arc for Module 2 — that pull the whole course together, and earn the certificate.
What You'll Learn
Teams rarely fail for lack of intelligence. They fail in the meeting where new thinking was needed: the same three people speak, the first plausible idea wins, and criticism arrives before the ideas are even finished.
This course treats that failure as a tools problem, not a talent problem: for each job a creative session must do, there are named, teachable techniques with known steps and known failure modes.
You learn the catalogue one tool at a time — what each technique is, when it fits, how a team actually runs it step by step, and how it fails when it is run badly or chosen for the wrong job.
And you learn the discipline around the tools: keep generation and judgment apart, prepare the brief and the inputs, facilitate with judgment, and carry every decision forward into owned, dated next steps.
What you will learn
- Select the right creative technique for a brief — and say why it fits and what would fit better
- Run the core generation tools: silent generation, structured speaking rounds, analogy, reversal, lens checklists, and provocation
- Keep generation and judgment apart — and bring them together, in order, without either corrupting the other
- Prepare a session properly: brief, inputs, participants, materials, and time
- Narrow a large field fairly with clustering, criteria, and voting methods that resist bias
- Combine and build ideas with combination charts, visual sketching, and quick tangible mocks
- Facilitate with judgment: read the room, intervene at the right moment, and protect quiet contributors
- Design a full session arc from brief to decision, and carry the output into owned, dated next steps

Built for the person who must run creative sessions — or sit in them well
Team leads and managers — who run planning, problem-solving, and improvement sessions and need more than one default move in the toolkit.
Facilitators and project leads — who are handed a brief and a room and must design a session that produces usable output, not energy and noise.
Product, operations, and service teams — whose work repeatedly demands new options under real limits of time, money, and goodwill.
Anyone who sits in creative sessions — and wants to contribute deliberately, recognize a misused tool when they see one, and help a team choose better.
No artistic background is assumed, and no prior study of creativity methods. If you work with other people on problems that do not have one obvious answer, you have everything this course requires to start.
