Delegation & Accountability
Signature Course No. 41 — A Signature AI Socratic Coaching Course.
A New Kind of Learning
Socratic coaching, delivered by an agentic AI coach.
Not a course you watch. An AI coach you work with.
The Lighthouse Coach begins by discovering how you think about the subject, teaches what is missing, and gives you realistic practice before asking you to prove that you can use it. You may test out of concepts you already understand, while capstones turn the learning into a practical plan, decision, conversation, or other real-world result.
The curriculum is deliberately authored; the AI delivers it through coaching. It is not an AI randomly generating lessons.
A coach that teaches by asking — not by lecturing
The Lighthouse Coach is an AI Socratic coach built on Cognosco Learning's Delegation & Accountability course, in the Management Development category. It does not play videos at you. It holds a conversation: it asks you a question, listens to your answer, names the misconception it hears, affirms what you got right, and asks the next question — the way a great coach works in the room.
This is the course for new and first-time managers who still do the work themselves, for experienced managers whose teams have outgrown them and who have become the bottleneck, for senior individual contributors and project leads who hand work to people they cannot instruct, and for managers of managers teaching others to delegate. It works in the order the work has to happen: first, Module 1 — Choosing and Briefing: What to Hand Over, Who Gets It, and the Brief That Holds — name delegation as a discipline and not dumping or doing, choose work that teaches and frees, hold back the judgment you own, match the work to a person's readiness, state the outcome as a picture of done, draw the boundaries whole, deliver the brief in one conversation, grant authority out loud, and set the first check-in before work starts, finishing with The Brief That Holds; then, Module 2 — Accountability and Follow-Through: Check-Ins, Correction, and Taking Work Back Honestly — run check-ins that help without hovering, read progress on evidence over impressions, correct course early and once, diagnose failure before blame, hold accountability without shame, take work back honestly, delegate up to your own manager and sideways to peers, and sign your own delegation standard, finishing with The Work Accounted For. You finish by proving the whole course — in The Brief That Holds and in The Work Accounted For. You can type your answers, or talk out loud: the Voice Coach speaks its questions and listens to your spoken replies, hands-free. The course is self-paced and always on — roughly 30 minutes per concept, about 9 hours in full, taken in as many sittings as you like. Learners who already know the material can test out concept by concept.
The signature, stated plainly. This course works on your actual delegations. Most management courses teach about delegation and leave your workload exactly as overloaded as they found it. This one does not: bring real work — a task you are about to hand over, a brief you have already given badly, a piece of work drifting now — anonymized where it needs to be, and the Coach will make you brief it, track it, and close it, concept by concept, until it holds. One rule protects that signature, and it is absolute: do not share anything you are not free to share: change the names, change the figures, keep the shape of the problem. Both capstones produce real artifacts — a complete brief and a follow-through record — not just ideas about hand-offs. The course also makes no claims it cannot keep: it names no studies, prints no statistics, and promises no percentages about how managers spend their time or what delegated work returns, and it holds its two fences throughout: delegation never transfers your accountability for the result, and matters governed by policy or law belong to your organization's own processes, not to this course.
This is the forty-first course in The Lighthouse Signature Series — the online counterpart to the one-day, in-person training Cognosco Learning has delivered since 2002.

Every learner moves through the same discipline a Cognosco instructor would insist on in the room.
Brief Whole
The Coach starts by examining the delegations you actually make — what you hand over, what you keep, how your briefs land, and what your follow-through looks like from the receiver's side of the desk, as they stand.
Learn & Practice
Work each concept in conversation with the Coach — spoken or written — then practice it against realistic situations until it holds up.
Prove
Every concept ends in proof: answer the check cold and demonstrate the skill. Know it already? Test out and take credit immediately.
Capstone
Finish with two capstones — The Brief That Holds for Module 1 and The Work Accounted For for Module 2 — that pull the whole course together, and earn the certificate.
What You'll Learn
Most delegation fails before any work begins — not because the person receiving the work could not do it, but because nobody taught the person handing it over what a hand-off actually contains. This course teaches delegation as a discipline: choosing what to hand over and what never to hand over, matching work to a person's real readiness, and briefing whole — the outcome, the boundaries, the authority, and the check-ins — before work starts, not after it drifts. You will learn to follow through without hovering: to read progress on evidence rather than impressions, to correct course early and once, and to hold people to a standard without shaming them. You will learn the hard calls — diagnosing failure before assigning blame, and taking work back honestly when taking it back is the right answer — and the two directions managers delegate worst: up, to their own manager, and sideways, to peers they cannot instruct. The course works on your actual delegations throughout: bring real work, anonymized, and leave with it handed over properly.

Built for everyone whose work runs through other people
Delegation & Accountability is for new and first-time managers who still do the work themselves; experienced managers whose teams have outgrown them, capable people who have become the bottleneck every decision routes through; senior individual contributors and project leads who hand work to colleagues, contractors, and partners without a reporting line; and managers of managers, whose problem is second-order — teaching others to hand work over without dumping it, hovering over it, or abandoning it: choose what to hand over, what never to hand over, and who is ready for it, brief whole, follow through without hovering, and hold accountability without shame. The course assumes you have work other people could do, and people around you who could do some of it; it does not assume anyone ever taught you how a hand-off is built.
The signature applies here, too. This course works on your actual delegations: bring real work, anonymized — do not share anything you are not free to share: change the names, change the figures, keep the shape of the problem — and leave with it handed over properly. It starts where working managers actually are: I handed it over. Why did it come back wrong, late, or not at all?
