Frontline Leadership Essentials

Signature Course No. 58 — A Signature AI Socratic Coaching Course.

An agentic, mastery-based AI learning platform.

A New Kind of Learning

Socratic coaching, delivered by an agentic AI coach.

Not a course you watch. An AI coach you work with.

The Lighthouse Coach begins by discovering how you think about the subject, teaches what is missing, and gives you realistic practice before asking you to prove that you can use it. You may test out of concepts you already understand, while capstones turn the learning into a practical plan, decision, conversation, or other real-world result.

The curriculum is deliberately authored; the AI delivers it through coaching. It is not an AI randomly generating lessons.

Meet The Lighthouse Coach

A coach that teaches by asking — not by lecturing

The Lighthouse Coach is an AI Socratic coach built on Cognosco Learning's Frontline Leadership Essentials course, in the Frontline & Industry Leadership category. It does not play videos at you. It holds a conversation: it asks you a question, listens to your answer, names the misconception it hears, affirms what you got right, and asks the next question — the way a great coach works in the room.

This is the course for shift supervisors, team leads and lead hands, working foremen and crew leads, and frontline leaders in retail, hospitality, and healthcare support services. It works in the order the work has to happen: first, Module 1 — The Single Shift: Leading the Work in Front of You — work through Concepts 1–9, finishing with One Shift, End to End; then, Module 2 — Across Shifts and Over Time: One Crew, Every Hour — work through Concepts 10–18, including the Leading Shift Teams module, finishing with The Ninety-Day Crew Plan. You finish by proving the whole course — in One Shift, End to End and in The Ninety-Day Crew Plan. You can type your answers, or talk out loud: the Voice Coach speaks its questions and listens to your spoken replies, hands-free. The course is self- paced and always on — roughly 30 minutes per concept, about 9 hours in full, taken in as many sittings as you like. Learners who already know the material can test out concept by concept.

The fences, stated plainly. Harassment, discrimination, threats, and safety issues are not supervisor-handled coaching material — they go to HR and the formal process immediately, every time, whatever your judgment of the people involved. And this course teaches leadership behaviour and general conduct standards only: it gives no legal or regulatory advice — not on safety rules, not on working time, not on discipline — and it does not replace your employer's policies, your training, or the law that applies where you work. The signature is the course's own: this course works on your own real shift. One rule protects that signature, and it is absolute: do not share anything you are not free to share — change the names, change the figures, keep the shape of the problem. Both capstones produce real artifacts — a full shift run end to end and a ninety-day crew plan — not just ideas about supervision.

This is the fifty-eighth course in The Lighthouse Signature Series — the online counterpart to the one-day, in-person training Cognosco Learning has delivered since 2002.

The Method

Run the Shift → Learn & Practice → Prove → Capstone

Every learner moves through the same discipline a Cognosco instructor would insist on in the room.

1

Run the Shift

The Coach starts with your shift as it actually runs. A shift is not run from a desk, a screen, or a radio — it is run by a person the crew can find, saying clearly what happens next. Crews do not grade a supervisor's intentions; they grade what the shift felt like to work in — whether the work was clear, whether help arrived, and whether the standard was the same at four in the afternoon as at six in the morning. Everyone begins with Module 1 — no skipping the foundations you only think you have.

2

Learn & Practice

Work each concept in conversation with the Coach — spoken or written — then practice it against realistic situations until it holds up.

3

Prove

Every concept ends in proof: answer the check cold and demonstrate the skill. Know it already? Test out and take credit immediately.

4

Capstone

Finish with two capstones — One Shift, End to End for Module 1 and The Ninety-Day Crew Plan for Module 2 — that pull the whole course together, and earn the certificate.

The Course Content

What You'll Learn

Most workplaces are led, in practice, by the person standing on the floor at the start of the shift — the supervisor who assigns the work, gives the briefing, walks the floor, and decides, in the moment, what gets corrected, what gets coached, and what gets sent where it belongs. Almost nobody teaches that person the job; they are promoted for doing the work well and left to invent the leading of it. This course teaches the frontline leader's discipline in order: run a single shift deliberately — know your crew, assign in full, brief to earn attention, walk the floor, coach in the moment, correct without humiliation, and hold safety and quality as leadership acts; then lead across shifts and over time — the handover, the briefing a shift you may never see reads cold, one standard at every hour, night-shift supervision, notes that lead, fairness, documentation, and honest reporting up — and close with your first ninety days and the frontline standard you sign. Your own shift is the course material throughout: bring one real shift, anonymized, and leave with a way of leading you can run on Monday.

What you will learn

  • Run a single shift deliberately — assign clearly, brief briefly, walk the floor, coach and correct well
  • Hold safety and quality as leadership acts — stop-work courage, near-miss culture, quality caught at the source
  • Lead across shifts — the handover, the unseen briefing, one standard at every hour, and notes that lead
  • Use judgment about what is yours to handle — fairness, documentation, reporting up, and your first ninety days

Who It's For

Built for the person the crew looks to

Frontline Leadership Essentials is for shift supervisors — in warehouses, plants, distribution centres, and field services, who run a crew through a shift and hand the work to the next one, team leads and lead hands — who direct other people's work while still carrying tasks of their own, often without ever having been taught the directing part, working foremen and crew leads — promoted for being good at the work, now responsible for the work being good when other people do it, and frontline leaders in retail, hospitality, and healthcare support services — store leads, housekeeping supervisors, portering and catering supervisors, and everyone whose team serves customers, guests, or patients face to face, across more than one shift.

The fences and the signature apply here, too. Harassment, discrimination, threats, and safety issues go to HR and the formal process immediately, and the course teaches leadership behaviour and general conduct standards only — and it works on your own real shift: anonymized, never bringing confidential material in its real form — and leave with a way of leading you can run on Monday. The course assumes you know the work your crew does — you were probably promoted because you do it well. It does not assume anyone ever taught you the other half of the job: how to assign it, brief it, watch it, correct it, hand it over, and answer for it.
