Full Stack Development Literacy

Signature Course No. 211 — A Signature AI Socratic Coaching Course.

An agentic, mastery-based AI learning platform.

A New Kind of Learning

Socratic coaching, delivered by an agentic AI coach.

Not a course you watch. An AI coach you work with.

The Lighthouse Coach begins by discovering how you think about the subject, teaches what is missing, and gives you realistic practice before asking you to prove that you can use it. You may test out of concepts you already understand, while capstones turn the learning into a practical plan, decision, conversation, or other real-world result.

The curriculum is deliberately authored; the AI delivers it through coaching. It is not an AI randomly generating lessons.

Meet The Lighthouse Coach

A coach that teaches by asking — not by lecturing

The Lighthouse Coach is an AI Socratic coach built on Cognosco Learning's Full Stack Development Literacy course, in the Personal Effectiveness & Well-Being category. It does not play videos at you. It holds a conversation: it asks you a question, listens to your answer, names the misconception it hears, affirms what you got right, and asks the next question — the way a great coach works in the room.

Every digital product you use is a stack. Something running in a browser or an app on a device, something running on a server somewhere else, and a store of data both sides depend on, with a set of agreements connecting them. Most failures in software projects are not failures of typing — they are failures of understanding between the people who want the system and the people who build it. This course gives you the whole map at the depth a decision-maker needs.

You learn to see the system in front of you. Trace one journey from a tap to a stored record and back; separate the browser's three jobs — fetching, building, and running; read a screen as components holding state against the server's record; judge an API by its contract; place the business's rules where they bind every road in; read a data model and spot the choice that will hurt later; and keep identity, authentication, and sessions as three separate jobs.

Then you judge the whole. Follow how code is shared, reviewed, released, and hosted, and ask for evidence at each step; judge quality before users do — testing, security habits, observability, performance, and backups; and finish by scoping, estimating, and accepting a full-stack build, slicing the work, pricing the uncertainty in the open, and judging the finished artifact in passes rather than by its demonstration.

It works in two movements. First, Module 1 — The System in Front of You — work through Concepts 1–9, finishing with Trace the Broken Journey; then, Module 2 — The System Behind the Scenes, and Judging the Whole — work through Concepts 10–18, finishing with Scope It, Price the Risk, Accept It or Send It Back.

Both capstones produce real artifacts — the Journey Verdict, a layer-by-layer verdict on a troubled feature of the running business, Glenhaven Provisions, naming what is proven, what is suspected, and what remains unknown; and the Scope and Acceptance Plan, a signable plan for a new build — traced, scoped with its exclusions, its decisions ruled, its uncertainty priced, and its acceptance checks written before the agreement.

The naming discipline is part of the course. The book teaches in durable architectural terms — browsers, servers, databases, requests, responses, contracts, sessions, environments, and releases — and names no product, framework, or hosted service as a source of truth, so what you learn still means what it means in ten years. When you need a current product fact in real work, the course teaches you what question to ask and what evidence to demand.

The course is self-paced and always on — roughly 30 minutes per concept, about 9 hours in full, taken in as many sittings as you like. You can type your answers, or talk out loud: the Voice Coach speaks its questions and listens to your spoken replies. Learners who already know the material can test out concept by concept.

This is Signature Course No. 211 in The Lighthouse Signature Series — the online counterpart to the one-day, in-person learning Cognosco Learning has delivered since 2002.

The Method

Diagnose → Learn & Practice → Prove → Capstone

Every learner moves through the same discipline a Cognosco instructor would insist on in the room.

1

Diagnose

The Coach starts where the course starts: with what you actually bring. Think of the system you use most at work — when you tap or click to make something happen, which parts of the journey can you actually name, and at which leg does your knowledge go dark? Every concept opens with three questions that locate where you actually stand, and your answers shape how deeply the Coach works the concept with you. Everyone begins with Module 1 — no skipping the foundations you only think you have.

2

Learn & Practice

Work each concept in conversation with the Coach — spoken or written — then practice it against realistic situations until it holds up.

3

Prove

Every concept ends in proof: answer the check cold and demonstrate the skill. Know it already? Test out and take credit immediately.

4

Capstone

Finish with two capstones — Trace the Broken Journey for Module 1 and Scope It, Price the Risk, Accept It or Send It Back for Module 2 — that pull the whole course together, and earn the certificate.

The Course Content

What You'll Learn

One journey, whole. Every concept returns to a single running system — Glenhaven Provisions, a fictional grocery-box business — so you learn to hold the whole small system in mind at once, which is the actual skill of judging one.

Module 1 shows you the system in front of you. The journey from browser to database and back, the browser's three jobs, components and state, APIs as contracts, server-side rules, data modelling, identity and sessions, and safe changes to stored data.

Module 2 goes behind the scenes. Version control and collaboration, environments and deployment, cloud and hosting, testing, security in depth, observability, and performance, reliability, and recovery — each judged by the evidence it can produce.

And it ends in verdicts. Scope and estimate a build with its uncertainty priced as located ranges rather than hidden in a single number, then judge the finished build in passes — scope against artifact, journeys on your own evidence, quality shown, handover secured — and accept it, condition it, or send it back.

What you will learn

  • The Full Stack Is One Journey — trace any user action from browser to database and back, and name the layer where a problem lives
  • What the Browser Actually Does; Front-End Structure — Pages, Components, and State; APIs Are Contracts — judge a page change and a contract by what they really involve
  • Server-Side Logic; Databases and Data Modelling; Identity, Authentication, and Sessions; When Data Changes — where the rules live, how records stay true, and what a safe change requires
  • Version Control, Environments, Hosting, Testing, Security, Observability, and Recovery — then Scoping and Estimating a build, and Judging a Build in passes before you sign

Who It's For

Built for anyone who commissions, manages, or judges software

Founders and owners — who commission systems or hire the people who build them, and who need to tell a sound plan from a confident one before the money is spent.

Managers and product owners — who write requests, accept estimates, and sign off releases, and who need to know which layer each request touches, what a change really involves, and what evidence to demand at each step.

Non-specialist professionals and career changers — in operations, finance, marketing, and service roles, whose work runs on systems they did not build and cannot currently interrogate — and coordinators who work beside development teams and want the shared vocabulary and judgment, without becoming developers themselves. No programming experience is assumed.
