Inner Game for Athletes
Signature Course No. 31 — A Signature AI Socratic Coaching Course.
A New Kind of Learning
Socratic coaching, delivered by an agentic AI coach.
Not a course you watch. An AI coach you work with.
The Lighthouse Coach begins by discovering how you think about the subject, teaches what is missing, and gives you realistic practice before asking you to prove that you can use it. You may test out of concepts you already understand, while capstones turn the learning into a practical plan, decision, conversation, or other real-world result.
The curriculum is deliberately authored; the AI delivers it through coaching. It is not an AI randomly generating lessons.
A coach that teaches by asking — not by lecturing
The Lighthouse Coach is an AI Socratic coach built on Cognosco Learning's Inner Game for Athletes course, in the Personal Development category. It does not play videos at you. It holds a conversation: it asks you a question, listens to your answer, names the misconception it hears, affirms what you got right, and asks the next question — the way a great coach works in the room.
This is the course for competitive athletes, coaches, and sports professionals who want to master the inner game of performance — adult and collegiate athletes who own a performance in training and watch a smaller one show up when it counts, athletes in a plateau or a bad stretch, and coaches who want a plain, honest mental-skills vocabulary to use inside their role. It works in the order the work has to happen: first, Module 1 — Know the Instrument: Attention, Self-Talk, and the State You Bring — read the mental game accurately as a trainable margin, work attention as a steerable spotlight, separate instructive self-talk from prosecution, read your state and your competitive anxiety honestly, build confidence on a record of evidence, sort the controllable from the weather, check the story after the play against the facts, and draw the help line plainly, finishing with The Instrument Audit; then, Module 2 — Perform It: Rehearsal, Routines, Resets, and the Long Season — rehearse in the mind's eye including the recoveries, build a routine that survives a late bus, hold focus under fire, run a ten-second reset after mistakes, use the gaps your sport gives you to recover, work through slumps and plateaus without panic, meet pressure moments with a protocol decided in advance, manage the voices around you, and assemble the whole game on one page, finishing with The Competition Kit. You finish by proving the whole course — in The Instrument Audit and in The Competition Kit. You can type your answers, or talk out loud: the Voice Coach speaks its questions and listens to your spoken replies, hands-free. The course is self-paced and always on — roughly 30 minutes per concept, about 9 hours in full, taken in as many sittings as you like. Learners who already know the material can test out concept by concept.
The fences, stated plainly. The mental game taught here is a trainable margin, not the whole game: attention, self-talk, rehearsal, routines, state management, and the reset are real skills, rehearsed the way physical skills are rehearsed — and they sit alongside the physical, technical, and tactical work, not above it. The course promises no outcomes, selections, or wins, because outcomes also depend on opponents, conditions, officiating, health, and plain chance; what it honestly offers is more of your actual preparation available to you on the day. And this is a skills course for the ordinary psychology of competition, not treatment for anything: distress that persists outside competition, anxiety or low mood that interferes with daily functioning, panic, or any concern about safety belongs with a licensed professional, not with a course. One territory is out of scope entirely — weight, body composition, and eating are medical ground, and the only move taught there is referral.
This is the thirty-first course in The Lighthouse Signature Series — the online counterpart to the one-day, in-person training Cognosco Learning has delivered since 2002.

Every learner moves through the same discipline a Cognosco instructor would insist on in the room.
Know the Instrument
The Coach starts by examining the instrument you compete with — where your attention actually goes, what your self-talk actually says, and what state you actually bring, as they stand. Everyone begins with Module 1 — no skipping the foundations you only think you have.
Learn & Practice
Work each concept in conversation with the Coach — spoken or written — then practice it against realistic situations until it holds up.
Prove
Every concept ends in proof: answer the check cold and demonstrate the skill. Know it already? Test out and take credit immediately.
Capstone
Finish with two capstones — The Instrument Audit for Module 1 and The Competition Kit for Module 2 — that pull the whole course together, and earn the certificate.
What You'll Learn
Physical talent can only take you so far — the difference between good athletes and great ones is almost always mental. This course is designed for competitive athletes, coaches, and sports professionals who want to master the inner game of performance. You will learn proven mental conditioning techniques including visualization, pre-performance routines, and state management that elite athletes use to perform under pressure. Through practical exercises, you will develop the mental toughness to push through adversity, the focus to block out distractions during competition, and the self-talk patterns that build confidence rather than doubt. Whether you are preparing for a championship or trying to break through a performance plateau, this course will give you the mental edge that separates winners from the rest of the field.

Built for competitive athletes, coaches, and sports professionals
Inner Game for Athletes is for competitive athletes — adult and collegiate — who train seriously and know the gap by heart, athletes in a plateau or a bad stretch who need a disciplined way to read what is happening, athletes whose own head is the loudest opponent, coaches who want a plain, honest mental-skills vocabulary to use inside their role, and sports professionals who work alongside athletes: develop mental toughness and resilience, use visualization and pre-performance routines, manage competitive anxiety and pressure, and build a winning mindset.
The fences apply here, too. The mental game is a trainable margin, and no routine in this course promises an outcome, a selection, or a win. This is a skills course, not treatment — distress that persists, interferes with daily functioning, or raises any safety concern belongs with a licensed professional, and weight, body composition, and eating are medical ground where the only move taught is referral.
