Inventory Management
Signature Course No. 23 — A Signature AI Socratic Coaching Course.
A New Kind of Learning
Socratic coaching, delivered by an agentic AI coach.
Not a course you watch. An AI coach you work with.
The Lighthouse Coach begins by discovering how you think about the subject, teaches what is missing, and gives you realistic practice before asking you to prove that you can use it. You may test out of concepts you already understand, while capstones turn the learning into a practical plan, decision, conversation, or other real-world result.
The curriculum is deliberately authored; the AI delivers it through coaching. It is not an AI randomly generating lessons.
A coach that teaches by asking — not by lecturing
The Lighthouse Coach is an AI Socratic coach built on Cognosco Learning's Inventory Management course, in the Business Development category. It does not play videos at you. It holds a conversation: it asks you a question, listens to your answer, names the misconception it hears, affirms what you got right, and asks the next question — the way a great coach works in the room.
This is the course for anyone whose cash is sitting on their own shelves. It works in the order the work has to happen: first, see the stock truly — inventory as cash that stopped moving, the four costs counted honestly, records you can trust, counting that counts through cycle counting, shrinkage measured and matched to controls, ABC classification so attention follows the money, turns and days of supply, dead and slow stock named plainly, and the availability promise your operation is actually keeping; then, keep it right — forecasting from your own history with moving-average forecasting and forecast-error checks, lead time measured rather than quoted, the reorder point set as a trigger, safety stock sized on purpose, how much to order through the economic order quantity, the purchasing cycle run without gaps, and the numbers read on schedule so the system stays honest. You finish by proving the whole course — in The True Count and in The Stocked-Right Plan. You can type your answers, or talk out loud: the Voice Coach speaks its questions and listens to your spoken replies, hands-free. The course is self-paced and always on — roughly 30 minutes per concept, about 9 hours in full, taken in as many sittings as you like. Learners who already know the material can test out concept by concept.
The fences, stated plainly. Every worked number in this course is computed in the open, step by step, from the learner's own figures — their own shelves, their own costs, their own records — so the reviewer and the student can check it. No benchmark statistics are cited as facts about the world: the course prints no claim about a typical shrinkage rate or an average carrying rate, because every rate the work needs, the learner builds from their own operation. Tools are described by role, never by brand: a tracking system, a receiving log, a count sheet — no named inventory software appears anywhere in the course. The standard methods are named correctly and taught by their ordinary names — cycle counting, ABC classification, moving-average forecasting and forecast-error checks, lead time, reorder point, safety stock, and the economic order quantity — and where a method is a model, its assumptions are stated where it is taught: the economic order quantity assumes steady demand, a fixed order cost, no quantity discounts, and no shelf-life limit, and the course teaches what to check when real life breaks each one.
This is the twenty-third course in The Lighthouse Signature Series — the online counterpart to the one-day, in-person training Cognosco Learning has delivered since 2002.

Map First → Learn & Practice → Prove → Capstone
Every learner moves through the same discipline a Cognosco instructor would insist on in the room.
Map First
The Coach starts by finding out what you already know and how you manage stock today. Everyone begins with Module 1 — no skipping the foundations you only think you have.
Learn & Practice
Work each concept in conversation with the Coach — spoken or written — then practice it against realistic situations until it holds up.
Prove
Every concept ends in proof: answer the check cold and demonstrate the skill. Know it already? Test out and take credit immediately.
Capstone
Finish with two capstones — The True Count for Module 1 and The Stocked-Right Plan for Module 2 — that pull the whole course together, and earn the certificate.
What You'll Learn
Poor inventory management silently drains profitability — through overstocking, stockouts, shrinkage, and missed demand signals. This course gives operations managers, business owners, and supply chain professionals the practical skills to take control. You will learn how to implement tracking systems that give you real-time visibility into your stock, forecast demand using historical data and market signals, and optimize reorder points to reduce carrying costs without risking availability. Through hands-on exercises and real-world case studies, you will build an inventory management strategy that balances efficiency with responsiveness — saving your organization money while ensuring customers always get what they need.

Built for individuals and teams
Inventory Management is for operations managers who own the stockroom, the warehouse, or the storeroom — and own the questions when a shelf is empty or a storeroom is full; business owners whose cash is sitting on their own shelves, who order by feel because nobody ever showed them the arithmetic; supply chain and purchasing professionals who place the orders and want the reorder decisions to be defensible instead of habitual; and store and stockroom leads who count, receive, and shelve every day: implement inventory tracking systems that reduce shrinkage, forecast demand and plan purchasing cycles accurately, reduce carrying costs without risking stockouts, and use data to make smarter inventory decisions.
The fences apply here, too. Every worked number is computed in the open from your own figures — the course cites no benchmark statistics as facts about the world, and it names no inventory software: tools are described by the role they play, so the method holds whatever system you already keep your records in. The buffer is priced, not guessed: safety stock is sized from your own measured swings, and the reorder point, lead time, and economic order quantity are each worked from your numbers, with the model's assumptions stated.
