IT Support Certification Readiness

Signature Course No. 276 — A Signature AI Socratic Coaching Course.

No experience needed — your coach starts where you are.

An agentic, mastery-based AI learning platform.

A New Kind of Learning

Socratic coaching, delivered by an agentic AI coach.

Not a course you watch. An AI coach you work with.

The Lighthouse Coach begins by discovering how you think about the subject, teaches what is missing, and gives you realistic practice before asking you to prove that you can use it. You may test out of concepts you already understand, while capstones turn the learning into a practical plan, decision, conversation, or other real-world result.

The curriculum is deliberately authored; the AI delivers it through coaching. It is not an AI randomly generating lessons.

Meet The Lighthouse Coach

A coach that teaches by asking — not by lecturing

The Lighthouse Coach is an AI Socratic coach built on Cognosco Learning's IT Support Certification Readiness course, in the Personal Effectiveness & Well-Being category. It does not play videos at you. It holds a conversation: it asks you a question, listens to your answer, names the misconception it hears, affirms what you got right, and asks the next question — the way a great coach works in the room.

Entry-level IT support is a broad job wearing a narrow title. In a single morning a support technician may rebuild a workstation that will not start, work out why a clinic room lost its network, reset access for a locked-out nurse, judge whether an email is a phish, restore a file a manager swears was there yesterday, and write the ticket note that lets the next shift pick the problem up without starting again. The entry credential's syllabus reflects that breadth honestly — and candidates fail readiness in predictable ways: one strand studied deeply, another untouched; product names learned without the deciding facts underneath them; troubleshooting by swapping parts and hoping; readiness judged on a feeling, or on one good practice score.

This course closes those four gaps. You learn every topic as a deciding fact attached to a situation — the address range, the permission that governs, the step of the method you are on — across networking, operating systems, system administration, and security together, the way the job and the assessments present them. Your study hours are budgeted by strand from the first concept, and your practice evidence is read by strand, never as one average that lies.

It works in two movements. First, Module 1 — Foundations: Machines, Networks, Systems, and Method — work through Concepts 1–9, finishing with The Readiness Audit; then, Module 2 — Operations and Proof: Administration, Security, Recovery, and the Readiness Decision — work through Concepts 10–18, finishing with The Decision Record and the Readiness Call.

Both capstones produce real artifacts — a readiness audit, strand-by-strand evidence with the first support decisions for a working IT department attached; and a full practice decision record with a readiness decision memo, verdict first and auditable end to end — the artifact this course exists to leave you with.

The honesty standard is part of the course. This is readiness, not a result: the course offers no guarantee of any assessment outcome, and it will tell you “not yet” when the evidence says so. The readiness standard is a course standard, stated once and never renegotiated — two consecutive full practice sets at or above 80% overall, with no strand below 70%. Syllabus facts are stated as published at the time of writing, and you verify the current facts on the awarding body's own pages before you commit. Every figure in a scenario is a stipulated teaching figure, chosen so the arithmetic recomputes.

The course is self-paced and always on — roughly 30 minutes per concept, about 9 hours in full, taken in as many sittings as you like. You can type your answers, or talk out loud: the Voice Coach speaks its questions and listens to your spoken replies. Learners who already know the material can test out concept by concept.

IT Support Certification Readiness is part of The Lighthouse Signature Series — the online counterpart to the one-day, in-person learning Cognosco Learning has delivered since 2002.

The Method

Diagnose → Learn & Practice → Prove → Capstone

Every learner moves through the same discipline a Cognosco instructor would insist on in the room.

1

Diagnose

The Coach starts where the course starts: with the credential itself. Before any protocol or command, settle the syllabus's shape — five strands, the course sequence behind them, the study budget that starts from the strands, and the readiness standard you will be judged against. Every concept opens with three questions that locate where you actually stand, and your answers shape how deeply the Coach works the concept with you. Everyone begins with Module 1 — no skipping the foundations you only think you have.

2

Learn & Practice

Work each concept in conversation with the Coach — spoken or written — then practice it against realistic situations until it holds up.

3

Prove

Every concept ends in proof: answer the check cold and demonstrate the skill. Know it already? Test out and take credit immediately.

4

Capstone

Finish with two capstones — The Readiness Audit for Module 1 and The Decision Record and the Readiness Call for Module 2 — that pull the whole course together, and earn the certificate.

The Course Content

What You'll Learn

Breadth is the syllabus. The entry job presents networking, systems, administration, and security in the same ticket, often in the same hour — so this course teaches the strands together, each item attached to the job it does, the neighbour it is confused with, and the wording that signals it.

Module 1 builds the foundations. The credential and its strands; the machine and its start-up chain; addressing, subnet arithmetic, names, and ports; the three operating systems; users, permissions, and files; the troubleshooting method; and the written record.

Module 2 builds operations and proof. Administration at scale; networks in the building; threats, hardening, and backup you can prove restores; automation; and then the execution craft — reading questions by governing concept, diagnosing practice scores by strand, and deciding on evidence.

And it holds its standard throughout. Readiness is evidence, not a feeling: two consecutive full practice sets at or above 80% overall, with no strand below 70% — and a decision memo that shows its numbers, whichever way the decision falls.

What you will learn

  • State the anchor syllabus's published shape — its strands and course sequence — as published at the time of writing, and verify the current facts before you commit
  • Explain how computers work — hardware, start-up, storage, and files — well enough to diagnose a machine that will not start or will not perform
  • Work the networking core: models, IP addressing and subnet arithmetic, DNS, DHCP, ports, and the protocols support work actually meets
  • Administer the three operating systems at readiness depth — Windows, Linux, and macOS — including users, permissions, and shared files
  • Run the support disciplines: a troubleshooting method, clear tickets and handoffs, administration at scale, hardening, and backup you can prove restores
  • Prove readiness: read questions by governing concept, diagnose practice scores by strand, and make the readiness decision on evidence

Who It's For

Built for the people the entry credential examines

Support technicians and service-desk staff preparing for the entry credential — who do the work daily and need the full syllabus proven, not just the parts their current queue happens to show them; and career movers toward IT support — retail, admin, and operations staff whose next role assumes fluency across networking, systems, and security that they were never taught as one syllabus.

Small-team IT generalists — the one or two technical people in a school, clinic, practice, or small firm, who need breadth certified because their job has no specialist to hand anything to; and candidates returning after a disappointing attempt — who need diagnosis by strand rather than more hours of the same study.

This course assumes comfort using a computer at work, no prior systems administration experience, and no mathematics beyond ordinary working arithmetic — every calculation in the course, including the subnet arithmetic, is shown with its working.

Good Questions

Before you enroll

What is a Socratic coaching session?

A conversation, not a video. Your coach asks a question; you answer — out loud by voice, or by typing — and the coach responds to what you said: naming the misconception it hears, affirming what you got right, and asking the next question. You advance only when you have mastered each concept, so a finished course means the learning held.

How long does it take — and how long do I have?

About 30 minutes per concept. Learn in sittings of any length; your progress is saved as you go. You have a full year from purchase to finish, and you can revisit and retake within that year.

What does the certificate verify?

That you completed every concept and both capstones of this course. Anyone can confirm a Cognosco certificate online — enter its certificate ID on our verification page.

What if it isn't for me — what are the refunds?

If you have not started, cancel for a full refund within seven days of purchase. Once you have started, there is no cash refund — stop before finishing and we credit the full amount you paid toward any other course in the library (credit valid one year from your original purchase). Once you complete the course, no refund or credit applies.
