Marketing Analytics: Measure What Matters
Signature Course No. 153 — A Signature AI Socratic Coaching Course.
A New Kind of Learning
Socratic coaching, delivered by an agentic AI coach.
Not a course you watch. An AI coach you work with.
The Lighthouse Coach begins by discovering how you think about the subject, teaches what is missing, and gives you realistic practice before asking you to prove that you can use it. You may test out of concepts you already understand, while capstones turn the learning into a practical plan, decision, conversation, or other real-world result.
The curriculum is deliberately authored; the AI delivers it through coaching. It is not an AI randomly generating lessons.
A coach that teaches by asking — not by lecturing
The Lighthouse Coach is an AI Socratic coach built on Cognosco Learning's Marketing Analytics: Measure What Matters course, in the Sales, Service & Revenue category. It does not play videos at you. It holds a conversation: it asks you a question, listens to your answer, names the misconception it hears, affirms what you got right, and asks the next question — the way a great coach works in the room.
This is the course for marketing managers and team leads who own a budget and must defend it, for growth, media, and lifecycle specialists who run channels day to day, for founders and general managers who sign the marketing checks, and for analysts whose dashboards and reports need to change decisions instead of merely recording history.
It works in two movements. First, Module 1 — From Activity to Evidence — work through Concepts 1–9, finishing with The Measurement Audit; then, Module 2 — From Evidence to Decisions — work through Concepts 10–18, finishing with The Reallocation Plan.
You finish by proving the whole course — in The Measurement Audit and in The Reallocation Plan. You can type your answers, or talk out loud: the Voice Coach speaks its questions and listens to your spoken replies, hands-free. Defending a budget, explaining an attribution limit, and walking a finance partner through a kill decision are spoken acts, and this course practices them that way.
The course is self-paced and always on — roughly 30 minutes per concept, about 9 hours in full, taken in as many sittings as you like. Learners who already know the material can test out concept by concept.
Every figure in the course is checkable. You work one company's complete marketing year — its funnel, its channel spend, and its customer economics — and every rate, price, and budget argument is computed from those figures, so you can rebuild any number yourself and see exactly how far it should be trusted.
Both capstones produce real artifacts — a written measurement audit fit to hand to the executive who funds the budget, and a complete reallocation plan with its test program and kill standard — written to be used on the real job, not just filed in the course.
This is the one hundred and fifty-third course in The Lighthouse Signature Series — the online counterpart to the one-day, in-person learning Cognosco Learning has delivered since 2002.

Diagnose → Learn & Practice → Prove → Capstone
Every learner moves through the same discipline a Cognosco instructor would insist on in the room.
Diagnose
The Coach starts where the course starts: with the claim behind the number. Marketing did not cause everything that happened while marketing was running. Every concept opens with three questions that locate where you actually stand, and your answers shape how deeply the Coach works the concept with you. Everyone begins with Module 1 — no skipping the foundations you only think you have.
Learn & Practice
Work each concept in conversation with the Coach — spoken or written — then practice it against realistic situations until it holds up.
Prove
Every concept ends in proof: answer the check cold and demonstrate the skill. Know it already? Test out and take credit immediately.
Capstone
Finish with two capstones — The Measurement Audit for Module 1 and The Reallocation Plan for Module 2 — that pull the whole course together, and earn the certificate.
What You'll Learn
Every marketing team can describe its activity. Very few can describe its effect. The activity is easy to count — impressions served, emails sent, posts published, dollars spent.
The effect is the only thing the money was for: customers who bought because of the spending, revenue that would not have existed without it, a business that is larger than it would otherwise have been. This course teaches you to measure the effect and to stop paying for the activity.
You will learn how funnels actually multiply, why every rate is a fraction whose denominator is a decision, how to price a new customer honestly and set that price against what the customer is worth, and how attribution shares credit by rule without ever proving cause.
Then you will build the harder craft: incrementality thinking that asks what would have happened anyway, marginal thinking that prices the next dollar instead of admiring the average one, and cohort reading that separates customers you bought from demand you merely borrowed.
And you will finish with the decision craft: dashboards built to drive decisions rather than decorate meetings, budgets that move on evidence, and the discipline at the end of all of it — killing what does not measure up, on a schedule, by rules set before the results came in.
What you will learn
- Distinguish what marketing caused from what merely happened alongside it, and state the counterfactual behind every claim
- Build and audit a funnel — stage rates, overall conversion, and the arithmetic that connects them
- Compute customer acquisition cost completely and honestly, and set it against lifetime value and payback
- Use rule-based attribution for what it is good for, and state plainly what it can never prove
- Read change against baselines, seasonality, and noise before crediting or blaming a campaign
- Think incrementally and marginally — holdouts, lift, and the return on the next dollar
- Build dashboards and decision memos that move money, and run the kill discipline on a schedule

Built for the person who has to defend the budget
Marketing Analytics: Measure What Matters is for marketing managers and team leads who own a budget and must defend it in rooms where "engagement was up" is not a defense, growth, media, and lifecycle specialists who run channels day to day, founders and general managers who sign the marketing checks and want to know, in dollars, what the checks bought,
and analysts supporting marketing, who build the dashboards and reports and need those artifacts to change decisions instead of merely recording history.
This is a Sales, Service & Revenue course. It assumes comfort with arithmetic — percentages, ratios, and a spreadsheet — and a willingness to have your favorite metric questioned. It assumes no statistics degree: where a judgment depends on how much evidence is enough, the course teaches the judgment and applies it, plainly.
If you can divide one number by another and say what the result means, you have everything this course requires to start.
