Marketing Strategy: Win Your Market
Signature Course No. 166 — A Signature AI Socratic Coaching Course.
A New Kind of Learning
Socratic coaching, delivered by an agentic AI coach.
Not a course you watch. An AI coach you work with.
The Lighthouse Coach begins by discovering how you think about the subject, teaches what is missing, and gives you realistic practice before asking you to prove that you can use it. You may test out of concepts you already understand, while capstones turn the learning into a practical plan, decision, conversation, or other real-world result.
The curriculum is deliberately authored; the AI delivers it through coaching. It is not an AI randomly generating lessons.
A coach that teaches by asking — not by lecturing
The Lighthouse Coach is an AI Socratic coach built on Cognosco Learning's Marketing Strategy: Win Your Market course, in the Sales, Service & Revenue category. It does not play videos at you. It holds a conversation: it asks you a question, listens to your answer, names the misconception it hears, affirms what you got right, and asks the next question — the way a great coach works in the room.
This is the course for marketing managers and strategists who own a market, a segment, or a product line and must defend their choices to people who control money — for founders and owners whose business has outgrown serving whoever showed up, for product and commercial leads who set offers and prices, and for operators moving into strategy roles.
It works in the order the decisions must be made. First, Module 1 — Choose Where to Win — work through Concepts 1–9, finishing with The Market Choice; then, Module 2 — Win the Chosen Market — work through Concepts 10–18, finishing with The Winning-Market Plan.
You finish by proving the whole course — in The Market Choice and in The Winning-Market Plan. You can type your answers, or talk out loud: the Voice Coach speaks its questions and listens to your spoken replies, hands-free. Defending a market choice and arguing a growth move are spoken acts, and this course treats them that way.
The course is self-paced and always on — roughly 30 minutes per concept, about 9 hours in full, taken in as many sittings as you like. Learners who already know the material can test out concept by concept.
One company, one market, one set of figures. The whole course runs on Perrin Outdoor Gear Co., a fictional maker and seller of packs and trail footwear, and its market — stated once, in full, and tied everywhere. Every share, budget, and growth claim is computed from those figures, and you can check any of them yourself with a pencil.
Strategy is a choice. A choice that excludes nothing is not a strategy. Every concept ends in a selection — this market, not that one; this segment first; this position, defended with proof — and you write down what you are not doing, because that sentence is where strategy lives.
Both capstones produce real artifacts — a written market choice, with its target, defer, and leave lists and the budget that follows from them, and a complete winning-market plan, defended in writing and signed — written to be usable on the real job, not just in the course.
This is the one hundred and sixty-sixth course in The Lighthouse Signature Series — the online counterpart to the one-day, in-person learning Cognosco Learning has delivered since 2002.

Diagnose → Learn & Practice → Prove → Capstone
Every learner moves through the same discipline a Cognosco instructor would insist on in the room.
Diagnose
The Coach starts where the course starts: with the order of decisions. You cannot win a market you have not chosen — and you cannot choose a market you have not honestly measured. Every concept opens with three questions that locate where you actually stand, and your answers shape how deeply the Coach works the concept with you. Everyone begins with Module 1 — no skipping the foundations you only think you have.
Learn & Practice
Work each concept in conversation with the Coach — spoken or written — then practice it against realistic situations until it holds up.
Prove
Every concept ends in proof: answer the check cold and demonstrate the skill. Know it already? Test out and take credit immediately.
Capstone
Finish with two capstones — The Market Choice for Module 1 and The Winning-Market Plan for Module 2 — that pull the whole course together, and earn the certificate.
What You'll Learn
Every business competes for a buyer who has other options, including the option of doing nothing. Marketing strategy is the set of decisions that determines whether that buyer chooses you — and whether choosing you makes the business money.
Define before you measure. You will learn to define a market before you measure it, to size it in a way that ties, to cut it into segments that can actually be acted on, and to choose among those segments with your eyes open about size, growth, competition, and fit.
Find the real job, map the real field. You will learn to find out what a buyer is really hiring your product to do, to map the rivals and substitutes that stand between you and that buyer, and to build a difference that is worth paying for and can be proved.
Turn choice into position, then into growth. A place in the buyer's mind, supported by an offer and a price that express it. Then the growth decisions — where to expand, in what order, at what risk — how competitors will answer you, where to put scarce money and people, how to align the rest of the business behind the choice, which signals tell you the strategy is working, and how a strategist reviews, adapts, and signs their work.
What you will learn
- Make marketing decisions in strategic order — market, segment, position, offer — before any tactical work begins
- Define and size a market so the figures tie and can be defended
- Segment a market into groups you can act on, and choose which to target, defer, or leave
- Establish what buyers are really hiring a product to do, and map rivals, substitutes, and the do-nothing option
- Build a provable difference and turn it into a positioning a buyer can repeat
- Set offer and price as expressions of strategy, and choose growth moves in risk order
- Anticipate competitive response, allocate scarce resources, align the business, and read the signals that say whether the strategy is winning

Built for the practitioner who must defend the choice
Marketing Strategy: Win Your Market is for marketing managers and strategists who own a market, a segment, or a product line, founders and owners whose business has outgrown serving whoever showed up, product and commercial leads who set offers and prices,
and operators moving into strategy roles who already execute marketing well and want the judgment layer above execution: selection, positioning, and growth choice.
This is a Sales, Service & Revenue course. It assumes working familiarity with marketing basics and comfort with arithmetic. It assumes no prior strategy post and no economics degree.
If you can multiply people by spending and read a percentage, you have everything this course requires to start — the rest is built here, concept by concept, on one company you will come to know very well.
