Paid Advertising II: Meta Ads That Pay Back

Signature Course No. 127 — A Signature AI Socratic Coaching Course.

An agentic, mastery-based AI learning platform.

A New Kind of Learning

Socratic coaching, delivered by an agentic AI coach.

Not a course you watch. An AI coach you work with.

The Lighthouse Coach begins by discovering how you think about the subject, teaches what is missing, and gives you realistic practice before asking you to prove that you can use it. You may test out of concepts you already understand, while capstones turn the learning into a practical plan, decision, conversation, or other real-world result.

The curriculum is deliberately authored; the AI delivers it through coaching. It is not an AI randomly generating lessons.

Meet The Lighthouse Coach

A coach that teaches by asking — not by lecturing

The Lighthouse Coach is an AI Socratic coach built on Cognosco Learning's Paid Advertising II: Meta Ads That Pay Back course, in the Sales, Service & Revenue category. It does not play videos at you. It holds a conversation: it asks you a question, listens to your answer, names the misconception it hears, affirms what you got right, and asks the next question — the way a great coach works in the room.

You work on one consistent set of figures throughout — one fictional advertiser, Willow Creek Pet Co., whose complete baseline month you learn whole in Concept 3, so every rate, test budget, and payback figure in the course can be checked by hand against the same page.

This is the course for owners and founders who spend their own money on Meta, marketers and media buyers who run Facebook and Instagram campaigns for a business or for clients, e-commerce and direct-to-consumer operators whose purchase must clear a known cost ceiling, and marketers moving from search to social who must unlearn the assumption that intent arrives typed and ready to buy.

It works in two movements: first, Module 1 — Instructing the System: Objective, Audience, Creative, Spend — work through Concepts 1–9, finishing with The Launch Plan; then, Module 2 — Proving It Paid: Measurement, Retargeting, Economics — work through Concepts 10–18, finishing with The Payback Audit.

You finish by proving the whole course — in The Launch Plan and in The Payback Audit. You can type your answers, or talk out loud: the Voice Coach speaks its questions and listens to your spoken replies, hands-free. The course is self-paced and always on — roughly 30 minutes per concept, about 9 hours in full, taken in as many sittings as you like. Learners who already know the material can test out concept by concept.

This course runs on one advertiser, one account, and one set of baseline figures, stated once in full: no concept invents a second advertiser with friendlier numbers, and every worked figure derives from those stated inputs and recomputes from them.

A dashboard is an argument, not an answer — the course teaches you to interrogate what Meta reports as rigorously as it teaches you to run the ads. Platform behavior is framed qualitatively rather than asserted as precise platform statistics as permanent fact, and no figure is presented as a real company's result or as a platform statistic.

Both capstones produce real artifacts — a complete Meta launch plan an owner can hold you to, and a full payback audit you sign — not just ideas about advertising.

This is the one hundred and twenty-seventh course in The Lighthouse Signature Series — the online counterpart to the one-day, in-person learning Cognosco Learning has delivered since 2002.

The Method

Diagnose → Learn & Practice → Prove → Capstone

Every learner moves through the same discipline a Cognosco instructor would insist on in the room.

1

Diagnose

The Coach starts where the course starts: with the instructions, not the dashboard. On Meta you do not place an ad — you instruct a delivery system, and every result is read back through the instructions that produced it. Every concept opens with three questions that locate where you actually stand, and your answers shape how deeply the Coach works the concept with you. Everyone begins with Module 1 — no skipping the baseline you only think you know.

2

Learn & Practice

Work each concept in conversation with the Coach — spoken or written — then practice it against realistic situations until it holds up.

3

Prove

Every concept ends in proof: answer the check cold and demonstrate the skill. Know it already? Test out and take credit immediately.

4

Capstone

Finish with two capstones — The Launch Plan for Module 1 and The Payback Audit for Module 2 — that pull the whole course together, and earn the certificate.

The Course Content

What You'll Learn

Search advertising answers a demand that already exists. Meta advertising must create a stop, an interest, and often a demand that did not exist thirty seconds earlier — and it must do so inside an auction that is not simply selling space to the highest bidder.

Meta's delivery system weighs what you bid, how likely a person is to take the action you chose, and how people respond to the ad itself, then decides, impression by impression, who sees what. You do not control that system directly. You control the instructions you give it: the objective and conversion event, the audience signals and seeds, the creative, the placements you allow, the budget and pacing, and the measurement you feed back to it.

This course teaches those instructions as one connected craft. You will learn how the Meta auction differs from search intent, how to structure campaigns so the system learns the right lesson, how audience targeting really works and where its limits now sit, how to make and test creative that earns attention without lying, and how to place, budget, and pace campaigns without starving or flooding delivery.

Then you will learn the harder half: what the pixel and the Conversions API can and cannot see, what measurement survives privacy changes, how attribution windows manufacture and erase credit, how to use retargeting pools without paying twice for the same buyer, and how to judge every campaign by unit economics — cost per result, cost per acquisition, return on ad spend, and payback — until "the ads are working" becomes a sentence you can prove or refuse.

What you will learn

  • Explain how the Meta auction and delivery system differ from search intent, and what you actually control
  • Set objectives and campaign structure so Meta optimizes for the business result, not a vanity action
  • Build audiences honestly — broad, detailed, custom, and lookalike — and state the limits of each
  • Make creative that earns attention and test it with one variable, enough spend, and a decision rule set in advance
  • Choose placements and set budgets and pacing that give delivery room to learn without wasting spend
  • Set up and judge measurement — pixel, Conversions API, attribution windows — knowing what privacy changes removed
  • Retarget warm pools without double-counting, fatigue, or paying for buyers you already had
  • Judge and scale campaigns on unit economics: cost per result, cost per acquisition, return on ad spend, and payback

Who It's For

Built for the person whose money is in the auction

Paid Advertising II: Meta Ads That Pay Back is for owners and founders who spend their own money on Meta and need to know whether the spend pays back — not merely whether the dashboard is green — marketers and media buyers who run Facebook and Instagram campaigns for a business or for clients, e-commerce and direct-to-consumer operators whose purchase, subscription, or lead must clear a known cost ceiling set by margin and repeat buying, and marketers moving from search to social who know pay-per-click and must unlearn the assumption that intent arrives typed, labeled,

and ready to buy.

This is a course in paid media in the Sales, Service & Revenue category. It assumes you can read a simple table, multiply and divide percentages, and find your way around a spreadsheet; it assumes no prior Meta account. If you have run Meta ads before, the test-out route in each concept lets you prove it and move faster — the bar does not drop; the route just gets shorter.
