Parent Effectiveness Coaching
Signature Course No. 32 — A Signature AI Socratic Coaching Course.
A New Kind of Learning
Socratic coaching, delivered by an agentic AI coach.
Not a course you watch. An AI coach you work with.
The Lighthouse Coach begins by discovering how you think about the subject, teaches what is missing, and gives you realistic practice before asking you to prove that you can use it. You may test out of concepts you already understand, while capstones turn the learning into a practical plan, decision, conversation, or other real-world result.
The curriculum is deliberately authored; the AI delivers it through coaching. It is not an AI randomly generating lessons.
A coach that teaches by asking — not by lecturing
The Lighthouse Coach is an AI Socratic coach built on Cognosco Learning's Parent Effectiveness Coaching course, in the Personal Effectiveness & Well-Being category. It does not play videos at you. It holds a conversation: it asks you a question, listens to your answer, names the misconception it hears, affirms what you got right, and asks the next question — the way a great coach works in the room.
This is the course for parents who want to move beyond guesswork and build deep, lasting connections with their children — parents of toddlers discovering that a small child cannot be reasoned with like a small adult, parents of school-age children in the years of homework, friendships, and daily negotiations, parents of teenagers who feel the door closing and want the relationship to hold, co-parents and caregivers who need one message from every adult, and any parent who has had the evening they swore they would not have and wants skills instead of guilt.
It works in the order the work has to happen: first, Module 1 — Connection First: Hearing Your Child, Speaking So They Can Hear You — put connection before correction, listen in a way a child can feel, say back what you heard so the child can check it, speak in units a child can take in, give big feelings small words, read your own weather early, stay steady through the storm, scale the same principles to every age, and draw the safety line plainly, finishing with The Connected Week;
then, Module 2 — Structure With a Steady Hand: Firm, Fair, and Consistent — build boundaries as a frame rather than a wall, hold them firm, fair, and consistent, announce rules in the calm, design consequences that teach, navigate conflict without a casualty, hand over the reins gradually, build emotional intelligence at home, bring every adult onto one message, and learn repair after you have lost it, finishing with The Family Charter.
You finish by proving the whole course — in The Connected Week and in The Family Charter. You can type your answers, or talk out loud: the Voice Coach speaks its questions and listens to your spoken replies, hands-free.
The course is self-paced and always on — roughly 30 minutes per concept, about 9 hours in full, taken in as many sittings as you like. Learners who already know the material can test out concept by concept.
This is a communication-skills coaching course for parents, not family therapy, not child psychology, and not a substitute for either. It teaches parents to hear their children more accurately, to speak so their children can take it in, to hold boundaries that are firm and kind at the same time, and to repair the relationship after the inevitable bad moments.
It does not diagnose any child. It does not label any child. No child in this course is a problem to be fixed or a type to be managed — children here are whole people, growing, and the work is always the parent's half of the relationship.
And one line is drawn without softening: any situation involving harm to a child — abuse, neglect, a child in danger, a child hurting themselves, or a parent who is afraid of their own reactions — is outside this course entirely, and routes immediately to appropriate professional and protective help.
This course never teaches anyone to manage around danger. Discipline here is firm, fair, and consistent — and never harsh: no consequence in this course withdraws affection, and none touches a child's food, sleep, safety, or a parent's love.
This is the thirty-second course in The Lighthouse Signature Series — the online counterpart to the one-day, in-person learning Cognosco Learning has delivered since 2002.

Connect First → Learn & Practice → Prove → Capstone
Every learner moves through the same discipline a Cognosco instructor would insist on in the room.
Connect First
The Coach starts by examining the connection you parent across — whether your child feels genuinely heard, what your words actually sound like on the receiving end, and what state you actually bring to the hard moments, as they stand. Everyone begins with Module 1 — no skipping the foundations you only think you have.
Learn & Practice
Work each concept in conversation with the Coach — spoken or written — then practice it against realistic situations until it holds up.
Prove
Every concept ends in proof: answer the check cold and demonstrate the skill. Know it already? Test out and take credit immediately.
Capstone
Finish with two capstones — The Connected Week for Module 1 and The Family Charter for Module 2 — that pull the whole course together, and earn the certificate.

Built for parents of toddlers, school-age children, and teenagers
Parent Effectiveness Coaching is for parents of toddlers who are discovering that a small child cannot be reasoned with like a small adult, parents of school-age children in the years of homework, friendships, and daily negotiations, parents of teenagers who feel the door closing and want to keep the relationship strong, co-parents and caregivers raising a child in more than one household or with more than one set of hands,
and any parent who has had the evening they swore they would not have and wants skills instead of guilt: communicate with children in ways that build connection, set boundaries that are firm, fair, and consistent, navigate conflict with your child constructively, and foster independence and emotional intelligence in children.
This is communication-skills coaching, not family therapy: no child is diagnosed or labeled here, and the work is always the parent's half of the relationship. Where a family's trouble involves harm, neglect, or danger — a child hurting themselves, or a parent afraid of their own reactions — it is outside this course entirely and routes immediately to professional and protective help.
