PowerPoint & Slide Design That Lands

Signature Course No. 189 — A Signature AI Socratic Coaching Course.

An agentic, mastery-based AI learning platform.

A New Kind of Learning

Socratic coaching, delivered by an agentic AI coach.

Not a course you watch. An AI coach you work with.

The Lighthouse Coach begins by discovering how you think about the subject, teaches what is missing, and gives you realistic practice before asking you to prove that you can use it. You may test out of concepts you already understand, while capstones turn the learning into a practical plan, decision, conversation, or other real-world result.

The curriculum is deliberately authored; the AI delivers it through coaching. It is not an AI randomly generating lessons.

Meet The Lighthouse Coach

A coach that teaches by asking — not by lecturing

The Lighthouse Coach is an AI Socratic coach built on Cognosco Learning's PowerPoint & Slide Design That Lands course, in the Personal Effectiveness & Well-Being category. It does not play videos at you. It holds a conversation: it asks you a question, listens to your answer, names the misconception it hears, affirms what you got right, and asks the next question — the way a great coach works in the room.

This is the course for managers and team leads whose decks are read as a proxy for their thinking — for sales and account staff whose slides sit in front of customers and get forwarded to people who were never in the room — for specialists and analysts who know their material cold and lose their audience in the slides that carry it — and for founders and independent professionals who build their own decks, with no design department to rescue them.

It works slide by slide, then deck by deck. First, Module 1 — The Slide Itself: Message, Structure, and the Visible Point — work through Concepts 1–9, finishing with Rebuild the Inherited Deck; then, Module 2 — The Deck as a Finished Product: Economy, Systems, and the Room — work through Concepts 10–18, finishing with The Presentation Package.

You finish by proving the whole course — in Rebuild the Inherited Deck and in The Presentation Package. You can type your answers, or talk out loud: the Voice Coach speaks its questions and listens to your spoken replies, hands-free.

The course is self-paced and always on — roughly 30 minutes per concept, about 9 hours in full, taken in as many sittings as you like. Learners who already know the material can test out concept by concept.

Module 1 teaches the single slide and the message that orders it: the governing message written before a single slide exists; one idea per slide; the headline spent on an assertion rather than a label; visual hierarchy ranked before layout; type and colour held to strict disciplines; data slides rebuilt so the stated point is the most visible thing on them; images chosen to earn their place; and the quiet structure of margin frame, grid, and whitespace underneath it all.

Module 2 builds the finished product around the slide: word economy counted and cut in a fixed order; builds and reveals that answer questions the audience is already asking; speaker-support slides and the handout document built separately, as the two different artefacts they are; templates and masters that freeze the disciplines into a system; tables kept for the one job they do honestly; opening and closing slides designed as the first and last impressions they are; accessibility checked; a five-pass review that cuts before it polishes; and rehearsal of the deck itself — timed, drilled, and room-checked.

Both capstones produce real artifacts — a rebuilt inherited deck, rebuilt slide by slide to the module standard, and a complete presentation package: speaker-support deck, handout document, and rehearsal record — written to be usable on the real job, not just in the course.

This is the one hundred and eighty-ninth course in The Lighthouse Signature Series — the online counterpart to the one-day, in-person learning Cognosco Learning has delivered since 2002.

The Method

Diagnose → Learn & Practice → Prove → Capstone

Every learner moves through the same discipline a Cognosco instructor would insist on in the room.

1

Diagnose

The Coach starts where the course starts: with the deck assembled slide by slide, with no governing message to decide what belongs in it. Every concept opens with three questions that locate where you actually stand, and your answers shape how deeply the Coach works the concept with you. Everyone begins with Module 1 — no skipping the foundations you only think you have.

2

Learn & Practice

Work each concept in conversation with the Coach — spoken or written — then practice it against realistic situations until it holds up.

3

Prove

Every concept ends in proof: answer the check cold and demonstrate the skill. Know it already? Test out and take credit immediately.

4

Capstone

Finish with two capstones — Rebuild the Inherited Deck for Module 1 and The Presentation Package for Module 2 — that pull the whole course together, and earn the certificate.

The Course Content

What You'll Learn

Most decks fail before the presenter says a word. They fail in the building: a deck assembled slide by slide with no governing message, each slide carrying three ideas where it can hold one, titles that name topics instead of saying anything, charts that display data without making a point, and walls of text that turn the audience into readers while the speaker talks over their reading.

This course teaches you to build the other kind of deck. You will learn to start from the message and let the message dictate the slides; to give each slide one job and a headline that states its conclusion; to direct the eye with hierarchy, type, and colour used as disciplines rather than decorations; to make data slides where the point is visible at a glance; and to choose images that earn their space.

You will also learn to tell two artefacts apart: slides that support a speaker, and a document that stands alone — because confusing those two is the single most common cause of the unreadable deck.

You finish with a review and rehearsal method that treats the deck as a finished product to be inspected, timed, and stress-tested before it ever meets an audience.

What you will learn

  • Build a deck from its message outward — structure first, slides second
  • Give every slide one idea and a headline that asserts it
  • Direct the eye with visual hierarchy, disciplined type, and disciplined colour
  • Build data slides that make the stated point visible
  • Choose and treat images so they carry meaning instead of filling space
  • Produce speaker-support slides and handout documents as the two different artefacts they are
  • Review, cut, and rehearse a deck until it survives contact with a real room

Who It's For

Built for the person behind the deck

PowerPoint & Slide Design That Lands is for managers and team leads who present plans, results, and proposals every week, sales and account staff whose slides sit in front of customers, specialists and analysts who know their material cold,

and founders and independent professionals — who pitch, teach, and report with decks they build themselves.

This course assumes you can operate a presentation program at a basic level — open a file, add a slide, type in a box. It assumes no design background. If you have ever sat through your own deck and felt the room drift, you have everything this course requires to start.

This is a Personal Effectiveness & Well-Being course. Every specimen slide in the course is described in words you can inspect, so you are always judging real, checkable material.
