Presentation & Public Speaking

Signature Course No. 37 — A Signature AI Socratic Coaching Course.

An agentic, mastery-based AI learning platform.

A New Kind of Learning

Socratic coaching, delivered by an agentic AI coach.

Not a course you watch. An AI coach you work with.

The Lighthouse Coach begins by discovering how you think about the subject, teaches what is missing, and gives you realistic practice before asking you to prove that you can use it. You may test out of concepts you already understand, while capstones turn the learning into a practical plan, decision, conversation, or other real-world result.

The curriculum is deliberately authored; the AI delivers it through coaching. It is not an AI randomly generating lessons.

Meet The Lighthouse Coach

A coach that teaches by asking — not by lecturing

The Lighthouse Coach is an AI Socratic coach built on Cognosco Learning's Presentation & Public Speaking course, in the Professional Development category. It does not play videos at you. It holds a conversation: it asks you a question, listens to your answer, names the misconception it hears, affirms what you got right, and asks the next question — the way a great coach works in the room.

This is the course for professionals who present — in rooms, on calls, to boards, to customers — and want the talk itself to work: team leads, project managers, analysts, and specialists whose talks are competent, forgettable, and longer than they need to be, people who know their material and lose the room anyway, professionals facing harder rooms who need the question period to be a strength, and anyone whose nerves run the talk. It works in the order the work has to happen: first, Module 1 — Building the Talk: Know the Room, Find the Point, Give It a Shape — read the audience before you build for them, choose the one point and let it govern everything else, structure the talk so people can follow, open it so attention is earned, support the point with stories told honestly and evidence people can check, make slides serve the talk, keep the thread visible with signposts, and rehearse the talk aloud as a spoken thing, finishing with The Boardroom Briefing; then, Module 2 — Delivering the Talk: Presence, Questions, and a Close That Lands — take the room with presence and voice, use nerves as energy, read the room and adjust while you speak, invite and answer questions straight — including hostile ones — survive the day things go wrong, close so people remember and act, and review each talk honestly so the next one is better, finishing with The Town Hall. You finish by proving the whole course — in The Boardroom Briefing and in The Town Hall. You can type your answers, or talk out loud: this course is taken in writing and in voice, and openings, answers to hard questions, and closes are spoken to the Coach, who listens the way a room would listen — once, at speaking speed, with no rewind. The course is self-paced and always on — roughly 30 minutes per concept, about 9 hours in full, taken in as many sittings as you like. Learners who already know the material can test out concept by concept.

The fence, stated plainly. This book teaches honest speaking, and only honest speaking. It teaches no trick for making a weak case sound strong, no technique for dressing a claim you cannot support, and no performance that asks an audience to trust a speaker who has not done the work. Stories are told true or not told. Evidence is shown with its limits attached. Slides never carry a number the speaker could not defend out loud. A word about numbers, because this subject attracts them: the familiar charts claiming audiences remember fixed shares of what they hear or see are folklore. This book prints no such figures. It names no studies, quotes no retention tables, and leans on no researcher's authority. What it teaches instead is craft you can test in your next real talk.

This is the thirty-seventh course in The Lighthouse Signature Series — the online counterpart to the one-day, in-person training Cognosco Learning has delivered since 2002.

The Method

Know the Room → Learn & Practice → Prove → Capstone

Every learner moves through the same discipline a Cognosco instructor would insist on in the room.

1

Know the Room

The Coach starts by examining the room you actually present to — who is listening, what they already know and wrongly believe, and what they need from your talk, as they stand. Everyone begins with Module 1 — no skipping the foundations you only think you have.

2

Learn & Practice

Work each concept in conversation with the Coach — spoken or written — then practice it against realistic situations until it holds up.

3

Prove

Every concept ends in proof: answer the check cold and demonstrate the skill. Know it already? Test out and take credit immediately.

4

Capstone

Finish with two capstones — The Boardroom Briefing for Module 1 and The Town Hall for Module 2 — that pull the whole course together, and earn the certificate.

The Course Content

What You'll Learn

Most presentations fail before the speaker says a word — in preparation that never asked who was listening and never settled on one point. This course is designed for professionals who present — in rooms, on calls, to boards, to customers — and want the talk itself to work. You will learn how to read an audience before you build for them, build the talk around one clear point, structure it so people can follow, and open it so attention is earned. You will support your point with stories told honestly and evidence your audience can check, and make slides serve the talk instead of replacing it. Then you will work on delivery: presence and voice, nerves used as energy, reading the room, and handling questions — including hostile ones — with the same honesty the talk was built with, closing so people remember the point and know what to do next.

What you will learn

  • Know your audience and build the talk around one clear point
  • Structure a talk people can follow, and open it so attention is earned
  • Support your point with honest stories, checkable evidence, and slides that serve the talk
  • Deliver with presence, handle questions — including hostile ones — and close so people remember and act

Who It's For

Built for professionals who present

Presentation & Public Speaking is for professionals who present as part of the job — team leads, project managers, analysts, and specialists whose talks are competent, forgettable, and longer than they need to be, people who know their material and lose the room anyway, professionals facing harder rooms — boards, skeptical customers, public meetings — and anyone whose nerves run the talk: know your audience and build the talk around one clear point, structure a talk people can follow and open it so attention is earned, support your point with honest stories, checkable evidence, and slides that serve the talk, and deliver with presence, handle questions — including hostile ones — and close so people remember and act.

The fence applies here, too. This book teaches honest speaking, and only honest speaking: stories are told true or not told, evidence is shown with its limits attached, and slides never carry a number the speaker could not defend out loud. It will not help you sell a case you do not believe — honesty about the material is a starting condition here, not a style choice.
