Productivity for the Overwhelmed

Signature Course No. 186 — A Signature AI Socratic Coaching Course.

An agentic, mastery-based AI learning platform.

A New Kind of Learning

Socratic coaching, delivered by an agentic AI coach.

Not a course you watch. An AI coach you work with.

The Lighthouse Coach begins by discovering how you think about the subject, teaches what is missing, and gives you realistic practice before asking you to prove that you can use it. You may test out of concepts you already understand, while capstones turn the learning into a practical plan, decision, conversation, or other real-world result.

The curriculum is deliberately authored; the AI delivers it through coaching. It is not an AI randomly generating lessons.

Meet The Lighthouse Coach

A coach that teaches by asking — not by lecturing

The Lighthouse Coach is an AI Socratic coach built on Cognosco Learning's Productivity for the Overwhelmed course, in the Personal Effectiveness & Well-Being category. It does not play videos at you. It holds a conversation: it asks you a question, listens to your answer, names the misconception it hears, affirms what you got right, and asks the next question — the way a great coach works in the room.

This is the course for knowledge workers carrying more than a week can hold — analysts, coordinators, specialists, and individual contributors whose demand has grown by accretion — for professionals whose work arrives from many directions at once, for people who are good at the basics and still drowning, and for anyone approaching the manager conversation about load who wants to raise it with numbers and options, not as a complaint.

It works in the order the skills build — first, Module 1 — Seeing the Overload Clearly — work through Concepts 1–9, finishing with The Audit and Triage Plan; then, Module 2 — Changing the Demand — work through Concepts 10–18, finishing with The Renegotiation and Conversation Plan.

One running case carries the whole course. You will meet Jordan Ellis, an operations analyst at Calloway Legal Support, whose audited demand is 54 hours against a 40-hour week — a gap of 14 hours — and you will count that week, triage it, and close its gap on paper and then in conversation, on the same figures from the first module to the last.

You finish by proving the whole course — in The Audit and Triage Plan and in The Renegotiation and Conversation Plan. You can type your answers, or talk out loud: the Voice Coach speaks its questions and listens to your spoken replies, hands-free. A renegotiation and a manager conversation are spoken acts, done live, to a person who can answer back, and this course treats them that way.

The course is self-paced and always on — roughly 30 minutes per concept, about 9 hours in full, taken in as many sittings as you like. Learners who already know the material can test out concept by concept.

You measure the result the way the course measures everything: in hours. Demand, capacity, and the gap between them, counted from your own records — never discussed in adjectives when they could be discussed in hours.

Both capstones produce real artifacts — a complete audit and triage plan for an overloaded week, and a renegotiation and conversation plan you could actually deliver — written to be usable on the real job, not just in the course.

This is the one hundred and eighty-sixth course in The Lighthouse Signature Series — the online counterpart to the one-day, in-person learning Cognosco Learning has delivered since 2002.

The Method

Diagnose → Learn & Practice → Prove → Capstone

Every learner moves through the same discipline a Cognosco instructor would insist on in the room.

1

Diagnose

The Coach starts where the course starts: with the count. You cannot fix a load you have not counted — and you cannot count it by how tired you feel. Every concept opens with three questions that locate where you actually stand, and your answers shape how deeply the Coach works the concept with you. Everyone begins with Module 1 — no skipping the foundations you only think you have.

2

Learn & Practice

Work each concept in conversation with the Coach — spoken or written — then practice it against realistic situations until it holds up.

3

Prove

Every concept ends in proof: answer the check cold and demonstrate the skill. Know it already? Test out and take credit immediately.

4

Capstone

Finish with two capstones — The Audit and Triage Plan for Module 1 and The Renegotiation and Conversation Plan for Module 2 — that pull the whole course together, and earn the certificate.

The Course Content

What You'll Learn

Overload is not a feeling. It is an arithmetic condition: demand, counted in hours, exceeds capacity, counted in hours, week after week.

Feelings follow the arithmetic — the Sunday dread, the inbox anxiety, the sense that finishing one thing only reveals two more — but feelings are a poor instrument for fixing it, because a hard week and a structurally impossible workload feel identical from inside.

This course teaches you to replace the feeling with a count, and then to work the count.

You will learn to audit what is actually demanded of you, to triage honestly when the total cannot be done, to build a task system that holds too much work without holding it in your head, to protect the unbroken time in which your most valuable work happens, to cut the meeting and message load that consumes hours you never chose to spend, and to recover in a way that keeps next week's capacity real.

Then you will learn the second half of the skill, the half most advice skips: how to change the demand itself — renegotiating deadlines and scope, declining work well, and having the manager conversation about load early, with evidence and options, while it is still a planning conversation and not a confession after a missed deadline.

What you will learn

  • Diagnose overload as a demand-versus-capacity gap and measure it in hours
  • Run a workload audit that counts all demand, including meetings, messages, and ad hoc work
  • Triage under excess demand: decide what stays, what moves, what shrinks, and what ends
  • Build a task system for too much work: capture everything, hold it on one list, review it on a rhythm
  • Protect deep-work capacity and cut meeting and message load
  • Work at a sustainable pace, using recovery to defend real capacity
  • Renegotiate deadlines and scope, decline work well, and hold the manager conversation about load

Who It's For

Built for the professional whose week does not fit

Productivity for the Overwhelmed is for knowledge workers carrying more than a week can hold — analysts, coordinators, specialists, and individual contributors whose demand has grown by accretion and who are quietly paying the difference in evenings and quality, professionals whose work arrives from many directions — clients, managers, systems, and colleagues all adding tasks, with no single person who can see the whole load except you, people who are good at the basics and still drowning — you plan, you prioritize, you work hard, and the total still does not fit,

and anyone approaching the manager conversation — you know you must raise the load, and you want to raise it as a professional with numbers and options, not as a complaint.

This is a Personal Effectiveness & Well-Being course. It is self-management and the upward conversation: your own load, counted in hours, triaged with owners, and renegotiated early — while it is still a planning conversation.
