Recruiting and Talent Acquisition: Find, Assess, and Hire the Right People

Signature Course No. 239 — A Signature AI Socratic Coaching Course.

New

No experience needed — your coach starts where you are.

An agentic, mastery-based AI learning platform.

A New Kind of Learning

Socratic coaching, delivered by an agentic AI coach.

Not a course you watch. An AI coach you work with.

The Lighthouse Coach begins by discovering how you think about the subject, teaches what is missing, and gives you realistic practice before asking you to prove that you can use it. You may test out of concepts you already understand, while capstones turn the learning into a practical plan, decision, conversation, or other real-world result.

The curriculum is deliberately authored; the AI delivers it through coaching. It is not an AI randomly generating lessons.

Meet The Lighthouse Coach

A coach that teaches by asking — not by lecturing

The Lighthouse Coach is an AI Socratic coach built on Cognosco Learning's Recruiting and Talent Acquisition: Find, Assess, and Hire the Right People course, in the People, Culture & Engagement category. It does not play videos at you. It holds a conversation: it asks you a question, listens to your answer, names the misconception it hears, affirms what you got right, and asks the next question — the way a great coach works in the room.

A vacancy is a promise an organization makes to itself — and recruiting is how that promise is kept or quietly broken. Done badly, it is a pile of resumes, a round of pleasant conversations, a rushed offer, and a resignation four months later that everyone calls bad luck. Done well, it is a disciplined pipeline, and this course teaches the second kind: every stage either gathers evidence or loses people, and a good recruiter knows, at every stage, which one is happening.

You learn the front of the pipeline first. How a requisition becomes a role definition with justified must-haves and a success profile, how intake turns a hiring manager's wishes into agreed criteria, how the pool is built on purpose in rings instead of hoped for, and how a posting filters for fit rather than fishing for volume.

Then you decide, close, and improve. Debriefs run from the scored record, offers built on an approved band and closed without breaking trust, speed read as velocity at constant standard rather than haste, and quality of hire judged months later against the profile written before anyone was met.

It works in two movements. First, Module 1 — Build the Pipeline: Define, Source, and Assess Fairly — work through Concepts 1–9, finishing with The Spring Pipeline Audit; then, Module 2 — Decide, Close, and Improve: Offers, Numbers, and the Recruiter's System — work through Concepts 10–18, finishing with The Offer-Ready Hiring Pack.

Both capstones produce real artifacts — The Spring Pipeline Audit, a front-half audit and rebuild plan for Devon Achebe's spring round at Silverline Hospitality, every claim tied to a standard, a record, or a recomputed number; and The Offer-Ready Hiring Pack, the complete, defensible record of that round — decisions defended from evidence, offers accounted for, and the numbers review that seeds the next season.

The honesty discipline is part of the course. Structured methods are taught as bias-reducers, at real strength: they predict performance better than unstructured conversation, and no method or tool here predicts any individual person with certainty. Employment law is framed as obligations-to-know with counsel, never as legal advice, and the course makes no hiring promise — no fill rate, no time-to-fill, and no retention figure is guaranteed.

The course is self-paced and always on — roughly 30 minutes per concept, about 9 hours in full, taken in as many sittings as you like. You can type your answers, or talk out loud: the Voice Coach speaks its questions and listens to your spoken replies. Learners who already know the material can test out concept by concept.

Recruiting and Talent Acquisition: Find, Assess, and Hire the Right People is part of The Lighthouse Signature Series — the online counterpart to the one-day, in-person learning Cognosco Learning has delivered since 2002.

The Method

Diagnose → Learn & Practice → Prove → Capstone

Every learner moves through the same discipline a Cognosco instructor would insist on in the room.

1

Diagnose

The Coach starts where the course starts: with what you actually bring. Every search begins with a document most organizations treat as paperwork — the requisition, the written definition of the role — and every later stage inherits its quality. Every concept opens with three questions that locate where you actually stand, and your answers shape how deeply the Coach works the concept with you. Everyone begins with Module 1 — no skipping the foundations you only think you have.

2

Learn & Practice

Work each concept in conversation with the Coach — spoken or written — then practice it against realistic situations until it holds up.

3

Prove

Every concept ends in proof: answer the check cold and demonstrate the skill. Know it already? Test out and take credit immediately.

4

Capstone

Finish with two capstones — The Spring Pipeline Audit for Module 1 and The Offer-Ready Hiring Pack for Module 2 — that pull the whole course together, and earn the certificate.

The Path

From first question to finished work

1

Start where you are

Your coach opens with questions, not a lecture, and finds what you already know. Anything you can already prove, you can test out of — you only study what you have not yet mastered.

2

Learn concept by concept

18 concepts, in two modules, about 30 minutes each, in conversation — you speak or type, the coach responds to what you actually said, and you move on only when the learning holds.

3

Prove it on your own work

You finish with two capstones — The Spring Pipeline Audit and The Offer-Ready Hiring Pack — completed as real work products drawn from your own workplace situation, not a made-up case study.

Module One: Build the Pipeline: Define, Source, and Assess Fairly. Module Two: Decide, Close, and Improve: Offers, Numbers, and the Recruiter’s System.

Capabilities you’ll gain

  • Build the front of the pipeline: define the role, run the intake, source the pool, and write a posting that attracts fit instead of volume
  • Assess with evidence: screen fairly, phone-screen with structure, run structured interviews and work samples, and score and decide from the record
  • Run a lawful, humane pipeline: know your obligations, design against bias, communicate so strong candidates stay, and verify proportionately
  • Close and improve: build offers that hold, manage speed honestly, judge quality of hire, use systems without surrendering judgment, and run the desk as an improving system

Finish, and you earn a certificate of completion for this course — verifiable online by anyone, anywhere.

The Course Content

What You'll Learn

Criteria before candidates. The moment you have seen a candidate you like, every criterion written afterwards is at risk of being written around that person — so this course writes everything down first: the role, the criteria, the questions, the scoring anchors.

Module 1 builds the pipeline's front half. The requisition and the intake that prevents drift, sourcing in rings and the posting as the first filter, screening and phone screens run for evidence, the funnel read honestly, and structured interviews and work samples that assess the work itself.

Module 2 decides, closes, and improves. Scoring and debrief from the record, fairness and obligations designed into the process, communication that keeps strong candidates in it, offers and verification done proportionately, and speed and quality measured without cosmetics.

And it builds your own system. Tools governed so they carry the process without deciding, and the weekly, per-round, and seasonal rhythms that make all eighteen concepts a practice rather than a course you once took.

What you will learn

  • Build the front of the pipeline: define the role, run the intake, source the pool, and write a posting that attracts fit instead of volume
  • Assess with evidence: screen fairly, phone-screen with structure, run structured interviews and work samples, and score and decide from the record
  • Run a lawful, humane pipeline: know your obligations, design against bias, communicate so strong candidates stay, and verify proportionately
  • Close and improve: build offers that hold, manage speed honestly, judge quality of hire, use systems without surrendering judgment, and run the desk as an improving system

Who It's For

Built for the recruiter's seat

In-house recruiters and talent acquisition specialists — who own requisitions end to end and answer for both speed and quality.

Talent acquisition managers and leads — who set the process, coach recruiters, and report the pipeline numbers to the business.

Agency and contract recruiters — who want a structured, evidence-first method that travels across clients and sectors.

People-team generalists and hiring managers who recruit heavily — generalists in smaller organizations for whom recruiting is a major part of the job, and managers who want the recruiter's full-pipeline view. The course assumes you work, or are about to work, real requisitions; it assumes no law degree, no statistics background, and no particular hiring platform — the method is platform-neutral throughout.

Good Questions

Before you enroll

What is a Socratic coaching session?

A conversation, not a video. Your coach asks a question; you answer — out loud by voice, or by typing — and the coach responds to what you said: naming the misconception it hears, affirming what you got right, and asking the next question. You advance only when you have mastered each concept, so a finished course means the learning held.

How long does it take — and how long do I have?

About 30 minutes per concept, roughly 9 hours in full. Learn in sittings of any length; your progress is saved as you go. You have a full year from purchase to finish, and you can revisit and retake within that year.

What does the certificate verify?

That you completed every concept and both capstones of this course. Anyone can confirm a Cognosco certificate online — enter its certificate ID on our verification page.

What if it isn't for me — what are the refunds?

If you have not started, cancel for a full refund within seven days of purchase. Once you have started, there is no cash refund — stop before finishing and we credit the full amount you paid toward any other course in the library (credit valid one year from your original purchase). Once you complete the course, no refund or credit applies.
