Respectful Workplace & Harassment Prevention

Signature Course No. 53 — A Signature AI Socratic Coaching Course.

An agentic, mastery-based AI learning platform.

A New Kind of Learning

Socratic coaching, delivered by an agentic AI coach.

Not a course you watch. An AI coach you work with.

The Lighthouse Coach begins by discovering how you think about the subject, teaches what is missing, and gives you realistic practice before asking you to prove that you can use it. You may test out of concepts you already understand, while capstones turn the learning into a practical plan, decision, conversation, or other real-world result.

The curriculum is deliberately authored; the AI delivers it through coaching. It is not an AI randomly generating lessons.

Meet The Lighthouse Coach

A coach that teaches by asking — not by lecturing

The Lighthouse Coach is an AI Socratic coach built on Cognosco Learning's Respectful Workplace & Harassment Prevention course, in the Risk, Safety & Compliance category. It does not play videos at you. It holds a conversation: it asks you a question, listens to your answer, names the misconception it hears, affirms what you got right, and asks the next question — the way a great coach works in the room.

This is the course for every employee, new starters and people new to a team, experienced employees and informal leaders, and managers, supervisors, and team leads. It works in the order the work has to happen: first, Module 1 — The Standard: What Respect Requires and Where the Line Is — work through , finishing with The Standard You Keep; then, Module 2 — The Manager's Duty: Receiving, Responding, and Preventing — work through , finishing with The Report on Your Desk. You finish by proving the whole course — in The Standard You Keep and in The Report on Your Desk. You can type your answers, or talk out loud: the Voice Coach speaks its questions and listens to your spoken replies, hands-free. The course is self-paced and always on — roughly 30 minutes per concept, about 9 hours in full, taken in as many sittings as you like. Learners who already know the material can test out concept by concept.

The fence, stated plainly. This course gives general information and conduct standards only. It is not legal advice. Your employer's policy governs your workplace, and this course teaches conduct standards and correct responses, not investigations. The signature is the course's own: this course works on real moments from your workplace. One rule protects that signature, and it is absolute: anonymize absolutely. No real names. No real incidents identifiable to anyone. Both capstones produce real artifacts — the standard you keep, and a worked response to the report on your desk — not just ideas about respect.

This is the fifty-third course in The Lighthouse Signature Series — the online counterpart to the one-day, in-person training Cognosco Learning has delivered since 2002.

The Method

See the Line → Learn & Practice → Prove → Capstone

Every learner moves through the same discipline a Cognosco instructor would insist on in the room.

1

See the Line

The Coach starts by examining real moments from your workplace — the joke that landed wrong, the comment nobody answered, the silence that followed — anonymized absolutely, as they stand. Respect at work is a standard of conduct that holds for everyone — and most harm begins in moments somebody judged by intention instead of by effect. Everyone begins with Module 1 — no skipping the foundations you only think you have.

2

Learn & Practice

Work each concept in conversation with the Coach — spoken or written — then practice it against realistic situations until it holds up.

3

Prove

Every concept ends in proof: answer the check cold and demonstrate the skill. Know it already? Test out and take credit immediately.

4

Capstone

Finish with two capstones — The Standard You Keep for Module 1 and The Report on Your Desk for Module 2 — that pull the whole course together, and earn the certificate.

The Course Content

What You'll Learn

A respectful workplace is not a mood, a poster, or a personality type. It is a conduct standard: a set of expectations about how people speak to each other, include each other, and use — or refuse to use — power over each other, which holds on good days and bad ones, in the office and on the screen, for the newest hire and the highest performer alike. This course teaches that standard plainly. You will learn what respect requires as conduct, not as feeling; where the line sits between rough, clumsy, or unwelcome behaviour and harassment, and why the receiver's experience — not the speaker's intention — is the test that decides; and how harassment actually appears in modern work: in words, on screens, and off the clock. You will work through the grey zone honestly — jokes, banter, and the defence that "we always talk like this" — and through the places conduct quietly goes wrong: where power changes the meaning of an invitation, where workplace relationships create consent, favouritism, and disclosure questions, and where retaliation after a report does its own separate damage. If conduct happens to you, you will learn your options, how to keep notes that help, and how to use the reporting routes your employer provides. If you see it happen to someone else, you will learn the bystander's part. Module 2 then speaks directly to managers: the higher bar that comes with the role, how to receive a report in the first five minutes, why you escalate rather than investigate, what confidentiality you can and cannot promise, how to watch the team afterward, how to correct low-level conduct early, where the guard slips — interviews, events, travel, remote work — and how to set a prevention standard your team can hold you to. The course works on real moments from your workplace throughout: bring them anonymized absolutely, and leave with judgment you can use the next time a moment arrives — which it will.

What you will learn

  • Know the conduct standard and where the line is — what respect requires, what makes conduct unwelcome, and how power, context, and repetition change the judgment
  • Know your options and routes if it happens to you or you see it — how to respond in the moment, keep notes, support the person affected, and report through your employer's routes, without retaliation
  • Managers: receive and escalate correctly — take a report well in the first five minutes, promise only the confidentiality you can keep, preserve what the process needs, and hand the matter to the employer's designated process rather than investigating alone
  • Managers: prevent — correct low-level conduct early, watch for retaliation and quiet exclusion afterward, hold the standard where the guard slips, and set a team culture you sign your name to

Who It's For

Built for every employee — and the managers who carry the duty

Respectful Workplace & Harassment Prevention is for every employee — Module 1 is written for you, whatever your role, level, or length of service. The standard applies to everyone, and the first nine concepts assume no authority over anyone, new starters and people new to a team — who are still learning what this workplace tolerates, and who need the line stated plainly rather than absorbed by watching what others get away with, experienced employees and informal leaders — the people others watch and copy, whose jokes set the temperature of a room and whose silence in a bad moment is read as permission, and managers, supervisors, and team leads — Module 2 is written for you, in addition to Module 1, not instead of it. You complete the whole course: first the standard every employee is held to, then the duties only you carry — receiving reports, escalating, protecting the team afterward, correcting early, and preventing.

The fence and the signature apply here, too. This course gives general information and conduct standards only — it is not legal advice, your employer's policy governs your workplace, and it teaches conduct standards and correct responses, not investigations — and it works on real moments from your workplace: bring a moment, anonymized absolutely — no real names, no real incidents identifiable to anyone — and leave knowing where the line is and what keeping it requires. The course assumes nothing about your role: the standard applies to everyone.
