Strategic Leadership & Management
Signature Course No. 180 — A Signature AI Socratic Coaching Course.
A New Kind of Learning
Socratic coaching, delivered by an agentic AI coach.
Not a course you watch. An AI coach you work with.
The Lighthouse Coach begins by discovering how you think about the subject, teaches what is missing, and gives you realistic practice before asking you to prove that you can use it. You may test out of concepts you already understand, while capstones turn the learning into a practical plan, decision, conversation, or other real-world result.
The curriculum is deliberately authored; the AI delivers it through coaching. It is not an AI randomly generating lessons.
A coach that teaches by asking — not by lecturing
The Lighthouse Coach is an AI Socratic coach built on Cognosco Learning's Strategic Leadership & Management course, in the Leadership & Management category. It does not play videos at you. It holds a conversation: it asks you a question, listens to your answer, names the misconception it hears, affirms what you got right, and asks the next question — the way a great coach works in the room.
This is the course for chief executives and general managers who own an organization's direction and discover, usually the hard way, that announcing it and leading it are different jobs — for senior leaders and division heads, for founders and owners moving from operator to leader, and for leaders preparing for enterprise responsibility.
It works in two movements. First, Module 1 — Reading the Ground and Setting the Direction — work through Concepts 1–9, finishing with The Strategic Leadership Plan; then, Module 2 — Leading It Through: Change, Uncertainty, and Succession — work through Concepts 10–18, finishing with The Leadership Operating Plan.
One organization carries the whole course. You will meet Ironvale Components, a fictional maker of precision-machined metal components with three plants — Dayton, Tulsa, and Reno — and its chief executive, Margaret Ellery, and you will read its position, set its direction, fund its priorities, and lead it through a hard year, on the same figures from the first module to the last.
You finish by proving the whole course — in The Strategic Leadership Plan and in The Leadership Operating Plan. You can type your answers, or talk out loud: the Voice Coach speaks its questions and listens to your spoken replies, hands-free. Addressing a board, telling a plant floor what is changing and why, and announcing what will stop are spoken acts, and this course treats them that way.
The course is self-paced and always on — roughly 30 minutes per concept, about 9 hours in full, taken in as many sittings as you like. Learners who already know the material can test out concept by concept.
Every number in the course can be checked by hand. Ironvale's figures are stated once and held constant, every allocation is stated in shares and in dollars, and every figure the capstones restate is the same figure — so you can recompute each one against the running organization's stated facts with a pencil.
Both capstones produce real artifacts — a strategic leadership plan for Ironvale that a board can endorse and a plant can act on, and a leadership operating plan for leading it through a hard year — written to be usable on the real job, not just in the course.
This is the one hundred and eightieth course in The Lighthouse Signature Series — the online counterpart to the one-day, in-person learning Cognosco Learning has delivered since 2002.

Diagnose → Learn & Practice → Prove → Capstone
Every learner moves through the same discipline a Cognosco instructor would insist on in the room.
Diagnose
The Coach starts where the course starts: with the position read honestly. An organization believes its budget, its portfolio, and its calendar — not its speeches. Every concept opens with three questions that locate where you actually stand, and your answers shape how deeply the Coach works the concept with you. Everyone begins with Module 1 — no skipping the foundations you only think you have.
Learn & Practice
Work each concept in conversation with the Coach — spoken or written — then practice it against realistic situations until it holds up.
Prove
Every concept ends in proof: answer the check cold and demonstrate the skill. Know it already? Test out and take credit immediately.
Capstone
Finish with two capstones — The Strategic Leadership Plan for Module 1 and The Leadership Operating Plan for Module 2 — that pull the whole course together, and earn the certificate.
What You'll Learn
Most organizations do not lack a strategy document. They lack a leader who leads the strategy — week after week, in the budget meeting and the plant walk and the board session and the bad quarter — until the document becomes the way the place actually runs. This course teaches that practice, at the level of the whole organization.
You will learn to read your organization's position honestly, including the parts the dashboard flatters; to set a direction plain enough that other people can repeat accurately and act on without you; to translate it into a small set of funded priorities; to allocate money, people, and your own attention against them — and to stop, publicly and completely, the work the strategy excludes.
You will learn to hold the two conversations strategy lives or dies in: upward, with the board or owners who own the risk, and downward, with the front line who own the reality.
You will learn to govern a portfolio of initiatives as one portfolio, to lead change as a leader rather than administer it as a project, to decide under genuine uncertainty, and to lead through the setback every real strategy meets.
And you will learn the disciplines that keep a strategic leader strategic: building the next leadership layer, governing your attention, taking counsel without surrendering judgment, running a review cadence that corrects course on evidence, and holding the standard when fashion and fatigue argue for drift.
What you will learn
- Read your organization's strategic position honestly — strengths, exposures, and the facts the dashboard flatters
- Set a direction others can repeat accurately and act on without you in the room
- Translate strategy into a small set of priorities, and fund those priorities with real allocations
- Stop the work the strategy excludes, and govern the whole initiative portfolio as one portfolio
- Hold strategic conversations upward with a board or owners, and downward with the front line
- Lead change, decide under uncertainty, and lead through setbacks without abandoning the strategy or denying the facts
- Build the next leadership layer, and hold your own strategic discipline — time, attention, counsel, review, and standard

Built for the leader who leads the strategy
Strategic Leadership & Management is for chief executives and general managers who own an organization's direction, senior leaders and division heads who must translate an enterprise direction into their part of the organization, fund it, and defend it upward and downward at once,
founders and owners moving from operator to leader, whose organizations have outgrown the stage where the strategy can live inside one person's head and calendar, and leaders preparing for enterprise responsibility — plant managers, functional heads, and successors preparing to hold a portfolio and a board conversation.
This is a Leadership & Management course. It assumes you already carry real responsibility for other people's work and real resources, and it stands on its own: the leading of strategy, taught whole, on one organization you will come to know well.
