Supply Chain Management Essentials
Signature Course No. 128 — A Signature AI Socratic Coaching Course.
A New Kind of Learning
Socratic coaching, delivered by an agentic AI coach.
Not a course you watch. An AI coach you work with.
The Lighthouse Coach begins by discovering how you think about the subject, teaches what is missing, and gives you realistic practice before asking you to prove that you can use it. You may test out of concepts you already understand, while capstones turn the learning into a practical plan, decision, conversation, or other real-world result.
The curriculum is deliberately authored; the AI delivers it through coaching. It is not an AI randomly generating lessons.
A coach that teaches by asking — not by lecturing
The Lighthouse Coach is an AI Socratic coach built on Cognosco Learning's Supply Chain Management Essentials course, in the Frontline & Industry Leadership category. It does not play videos at you. It holds a conversation: it asks you a question, listens to your answer, names the misconception it hears, affirms what you got right, and asks the next question — the way a great coach works in the room.
This is the course for operations and supply chain managers, general managers and owners, purchasing, warehouse, and distribution leads, and finance-facing managers who are quoted turns, carrying costs, and cash conversion figures in reviews.
It works in the order the goods actually meet their decisions: first, Module 1 — From Demand to Replenishment: Seeing the Whole Chain — work through Concepts 1–9, finishing with The Replenishment Plan; then, Module 2 — Moving, Buying, and Protecting the Flow — work through Concepts 10–18, finishing with The Resilient, Cash-Aware Supply Plan. You finish by proving the whole course — in The Replenishment Plan and in The Resilient, Cash-Aware Supply Plan.
You can type your answers, or talk out loud: the Voice Coach speaks its questions and listens to your spoken replies, hands-free. The course is self-paced and always on — roughly 30 minutes per concept, about 9 hours in full, taken in as many sittings as you like. Learners who already know the material can test out concept by concept.
This course runs on one company, one set of operating figures, and nothing else — every figure in it traces back to the figures stated in its first concept, on Bellweather Home Supply Co. and its EverLine Stand Mixer, and can be checked with a pencil.
It is a book about judgment, not about engineering: only four formulas appear, each one a working manager must be able to compute or check on the job, and everything else is a decision — how much service to promise and pay for, which supplier to trust with what, where a flow is actually stuck, and what to do on the morning the chain breaks.
Averages describe; variability decides. Every unit on a shelf is cash standing still, and no service decision is made in this course without its cash price attached, nor any cash decision without its service price.
Both capstones produce real artifacts — a demand-and-replenishment plan for the hero line that a manager could post on the warehouse wall, and a resilient, cash-aware supply plan for the whole company, defended in writing — not just ideas about supply chains.
This is the one hundred and twenty-eighth course in The Lighthouse Signature Series — the online counterpart to the one-day, in-person learning Cognosco Learning has delivered since 2002.

Diagnose → Learn & Practice → Prove → Capstone
Every learner moves through the same discipline a Cognosco instructor would insist on in the room.
Diagnose
The Coach starts where the course starts: with the whole chain. Every supply problem arrives with a hidden question underneath it — where does the cause actually live? Every concept opens with three questions that locate where you actually stand, and your answers shape how deeply the Coach works the concept with you. Everyone begins with Module 1 — no skipping the foundations you only think you have.
Learn & Practice
Work each concept in conversation with the Coach — spoken or written — then practice it against realistic situations until it holds up.
Prove
Every concept ends in proof: answer the check cold and demonstrate the skill. Know it already? Test out and take credit immediately.
Capstone
Finish with two capstones — The Replenishment Plan for Module 1 and The Resilient, Cash-Aware Supply Plan for Module 2 — that pull the whole course together, and earn the certificate.
What You'll Learn
Every business makes one promise twice. Once in words: we will have what you need, when you need it, at a price you can accept. And once in goods: a shelf that is either stocked or empty, a delivery that either arrives or does not, a bill that either leaves cash in the business or ties it up in boxes.
This course teaches you to keep the second promise. You will learn how demand actually behaves — as opposed to how a plan wishes it behaved — how to forecast it honestly and measure how wrong you were, what inventory really costs in all three of its costs, and how to choose a level of service on purpose instead of drifting into one by accident.
You will learn the reorder logic and the safety stock that protect a promise without bankrupting the business that makes it, and why lead times and variability, not averages, are where stockouts are born.
Then you will work the whole chain: purchasing and supplier relationships, the flow of goods through a building and the bottleneck that governs it, warehousing and distribution, the money view — working capital tied in stock and the real cost to serve a customer — and the discipline of disruption: what you decided before the break is what saves you during it.
Finally, you will put it together into a small set of honest measures and a weekly operating routine a manager can actually run.
What you will learn
- Read an end-to-end supply chain as one system and locate where a problem actually lives
- Distinguish real demand from orders, shipments, and wishes — and forecast demand as a range with a stated error
- State inventory's three real costs and choose a service level as a deliberate, priced trade-off
- Compute and check a reorder point and a safety stock from demand, lead time, and variability
- Buy on total cost and reliability, and manage supplier relationships as a working asset
- Find the bottleneck in a production or fulfillment flow and improve the system, not just one station
- Run warehousing and distribution basics, and compute the cost to serve a customer or an order
- Read the money view: working capital tied in stock, inventory turns, and the cash conversion cycle
- Prepare for disruption before it arrives, and run the chain week to week on a small set of honest measures
Everything in the course

Built for the person who runs the chain
Supply Chain Management Essentials is for operations and supply chain managers — who own availability, inventory, and delivery, and who need the reasoning behind the numbers their systems produce, not just the numbers, general managers and owners — who feel the chain only when it fails or when the cash runs short, and who want to see both coming while there is still time to act, purchasing, warehouse, and distribution leads — who run one link expertly and need to see how their link's best decision can be the whole chain's worst one,
and finance-facing managers — who are quoted inventory turns, carrying costs, and cash conversion figures in reviews, and who need to know what each figure actually proves and what it hides.
This course runs on one company, one set of operating figures, and nothing else.
This course assumes comfort with arithmetic and a willingness to work a figure through by hand before trusting a system to do it. It assumes no engineering background, no statistics beyond a stated standard deviation you will be taught to use, and no prior supply chain role.
If you can multiply a weekly demand by a lead time and say what the result means, you have everything this course requires to start — the rest is built here, concept by concept, on one company you will come to know very well. This is a Frontline & Industry Leadership course.
