The Data Science Bootcamp

Signature Course No. 213 — A Signature AI Socratic Coaching Course.

An agentic, mastery-based AI learning platform.

A New Kind of Learning

Socratic coaching, delivered by an agentic AI coach.

Not a course you watch. An AI coach you work with.

The Lighthouse Coach begins by discovering how you think about the subject, teaches what is missing, and gives you realistic practice before asking you to prove that you can use it. You may test out of concepts you already understand, while capstones turn the learning into a practical plan, decision, conversation, or other real-world result.

The curriculum is deliberately authored; the AI delivers it through coaching. It is not an AI randomly generating lessons.

Meet The Lighthouse Coach

A coach that teaches by asking — not by lecturing

The Lighthouse Coach is an AI Socratic coach built on Cognosco Learning's The Data Science Bootcamp course, in the Personal Effectiveness & Well-Being category. It does not play videos at you. It holds a conversation: it asks you a question, listens to your answer, names the misconception it hears, affirms what you got right, and asks the next question — the way a great coach works in the room.

Every organisation runs twice — once in the work itself, and once in the records the work leaves behind. Orders, clicks, tickets, deliveries, payments, complaints: the second running is data, and it is always an imperfect shadow of the first. This course teaches you to work that shadow honestly, end to end — a disciplined workflow, not a catalogue of algorithms and not a course in programming craft.

You learn the front half first. Frame a question so it serves a real decision, in six lines a sponsor can sign; acquire data and audit its provenance, coverage, and definitions before trusting a row; clean and join without quietly changing the story; and explore before you model, so the data can talk back. Then the statistics literacy the rest stands on: distributions, variation, honest intervals, significance traps, and the humble baseline every claim must beat.

Then you earn the verdict. Choose a model family as a workflow decision; split data so validation means something; hunt the leakage that makes good-looking results worthless; score with measures matched to the decision's real costs; tune without fooling yourself; diagnose errors by slice; and close with the disciplines that decide whether good work survives — communicating to decision-makers, documenting for reproducibility, checking for harm, and monitoring after you ship.

It works in two movements. First, Module 1 — The Front Half: From Question to Understanding — work through Concepts 1–9, finishing with The Workflow Audit and Exploration Brief; then, Module 2 — The Back Half: From Model to Decision — work through Concepts 10–18, finishing with The Model You Can Ship — Or Stop.

Both capstones produce real artifacts — The Workflow Audit and Exploration Brief, a complete front-half audit and exploration brief for Tideglass Foods, a fictional meal-kit subscription company, closing in a go / no-go for modelling; and The Model You Can Ship — Or Stop, a validated modelling plan, readout, and ship-or-stop recommendation in which every claim is stated at the strength its evidence supports.

The numbers discipline is part of the course. A result is a claim, not a trophy: every computed figure in the course recomputes exactly from the inputs printed beside it, so you can check any number with a pencil — and learn to say, in plain words, exactly how far each result should be trusted.

The course is self-paced and always on — roughly 30 minutes per concept, about 9 hours in full, taken in as many sittings as you like. You can type your answers, or talk out loud: the Voice Coach speaks its questions and listens to your spoken replies. Learners who already know the material can test out concept by concept.

This is the two hundred and thirteenth course in The Lighthouse Signature Series — the online counterpart to the one-day, in-person learning Cognosco Learning has delivered since 2002.

The Method

Diagnose → Learn & Practice → Prove → Capstone

Every learner moves through the same discipline a Cognosco instructor would insist on in the room.

1

Diagnose

The Coach starts where the course starts: with what you actually bring. Most analytical failures are decided before the first model is fitted — in the question nobody framed, the extract nobody audited, and the exploration nobody did. Every concept opens with three questions that locate where you actually stand, and your answers shape how deeply the Coach works the concept with you. Everyone begins with Module 1 — no skipping the foundations you only think you have.

2

Learn & Practice

Work each concept in conversation with the Coach — spoken or written — then practice it against realistic situations until it holds up.

3

Prove

Every concept ends in proof: answer the check cold and demonstrate the skill. Know it already? Test out and take credit immediately.

4

Capstone

Finish with two capstones — The Workflow Audit and Exploration Brief for Module 1 and The Model You Can Ship — Or Stop for Module 2 — that pull the whole course together, and earn the certificate.

The Course Content

What You'll Learn

A result is a claim, not a trophy. A model takes the question someone framed, the data someone audited, and the checks someone bothered to run, and returns those choices wearing the costume of precision — this course teaches you to run the workflow, and to interrogate your own run of it.

Module 1 earns the right to model. The six framing lines, the three audit passes, cleaning and joining under stated rules with a change log, the five exploration passes, and the statistics literacy — distributions, intervals, significance traps, baselines — the back half stands on.

Module 2 deserves the verdict. The frozen validation split, the leakage hunt, measures matched to real costs, tuning under a written budget, errors diagnosed by slice — then the readout, the reconstruction kit, the duty-of-care passes, and a governed ship, monitor, and retire.

And it keeps every claim at its evidence's strength. Baselines beaten in public, intervals carried into every readout, and a ship-or-stop dossier in which stop is a fully honourable verdict with its own record.

What you will learn

  • Frame an analytical question so it serves a named decision, with a population, a horizon, and a success measure stated before data is touched
  • Acquire data and audit provenance, coverage, and definitions — then clean and join without changing the story, keeping a record of every change
  • Explore before modelling, read uncertainty honestly, and choose, split, validate, and tune a model as workflow decisions, with leakage hunted and measures matched to real costs
  • Communicate findings to decision-makers, document for reproducibility, check for harm, and monitor what you ship

Who It's For

Built for anyone whose work runs on data

Analysts and aspiring data scientists — you can already get data into a table and a chart onto a screen; this course adds the end-to-end discipline that turns exercises into work a business can bet on.

Managers of analytical work — product leads, operations heads, growth owners who commission analyses and sit in the readout meeting, and need to know which questions expose a weak pipeline and which results deserve action.

Operators and career changers moving toward data — support leads, finance partners, and marketers who already make decisions with numerical consequences, and portfolio builders who need to show judgement: framed questions, audited data, honest validation, and write-ups a hiring manager can trust.
