A coach that teaches by asking — not by lecturing
The Lighthouse Coach is an AI Socratic coach built on Cognosco Learning's Vital Signs: Measure and Read the Body's Basic Signals course, in the Personal Effectiveness & Well-Being category. It does not play videos at you. It holds a conversation: it asks you a question, listens to your answer, names the misconception it hears, affirms what you got right, and asks the next question — the way a great coach works in the room.
Every clinical decision about a person you will never meet begins, very often, with numbers you took. A nurse deciding whether to visit today, a doctor deciding whether a medicine is working, a paramedic deciding how fast to move — each of them is reading, at one remove, the quality of your hands and your honesty. This course makes both reliable.
You learn each of the six signs as a hand skill first. Temperature at a stated site with a stated device; pulse found, counted, and described; breaths counted without the person knowing you are counting; blood pressure with the right cuff, on a bare arm, at heart level; saturation from a finger sensor whose limits you understand; and pain asked about directly, in the person's own number. Then you learn to read what you took: the adult resting ranges, what each band calls for, when a second reading is the right move and when reporting cannot wait, and how a week of readings says what no single reading can.
It works in two movements. First, Module 1 — Take It Right: How Each Sign Is Measured — work through Concepts 1–9, finishing with The Morning Round; then, Module 2 — Read It Right: Ranges, Patterns, and What to Do Next — work through Concepts 10–18, finishing with The Week the Numbers Moved.
Both capstones produce real artifacts — the morning-round measurement record, complete enough that a clinician can act on it without a single clarifying question; and the reading and escalation log, a week of charts read, forked, and escalated.
The honesty standard is part of the course. This course teaches measurement and reading only. It teaches no diagnosis — ever. Through all of it runs the line the course will never let you cross: you measure, you read, you report — a clinician decides what it means. Every out-of-range reading is reported to a clinician, and a value in the urgent range engages the escalation line in full: Report the reading to a clinician; if the value is in the urgent range, call for help now and call 911 if help is not immediately at hand. No clinical qualification, certification, or licence is promised or conferred.
The course is self-paced and always on — roughly 30 minutes per concept, about 9 hours in full, taken in as many sittings as you like. You can type your answers, or talk out loud: the Voice Coach speaks its questions and listens to your spoken replies. Learners who already know the material can test out concept by concept.

The Coach starts where the course starts: with the stance. Before any device comes out of your bag, settle who you are in the room, what you are about to do, and where the number will go — consent and explanation every visit, kit checked before the round, the person's own baseline glanced at first, and the report-never-explain rule governing every report. Every concept opens with three questions that locate where you actually stand, and your answers shape how deeply the Coach works the concept with you. Everyone begins with Module 1 — no skipping the foundations you only think you have.
Learn & Practice
Work each concept in conversation with the Coach — spoken or written — then practice it against realistic situations until it holds up.
Prove
Every concept ends in proof: answer the check cold and demonstrate the skill. Know it already? Test out and take credit immediately.
Capstone
Finish with two capstones — The Morning Round for Module 1 and The Week the Numbers Moved for Module 2 — that pull the whole course together, and earn the certificate.
What You'll Learn
Hands first, judgment second. A reading is only worth what the technique that produced it is worth — so the stance, the conditions, and the craft of each sign come before any range is ever applied to a number.
Module 1 builds the craft. The measurement stance; temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, saturation, and pain taken under each sign's discipline; the condition check run before every sign; and the record written at the moment of taking — figure, unit, site or method, time, and context.
Module 2 builds the reading. The adult resting canon stated once, completely; each sign read in bands whose edges are never negotiated; the recheck-or-report decision worked as a discipline; patterns over time assembled like-for-like; and difficult measurements carried to an honest, declared gap rather than a faked number.
And it holds its boundary throughout. Children, infants, and people during or just after exertion sit outside the adult resting canon — their readings are reported with their context, not judged against an adult table. Local policy governs wherever it is stricter than this course.

What is a Socratic coaching session?
A conversation, not a video. Your coach asks a question; you answer — out loud by voice, or by typing — and the coach responds to what you said: naming the misconception it hears, affirming what you got right, and asking the next question. You advance only when you have mastered each concept, so a finished course means the learning held.
How long does it take — and how long do I have?
About 30 minutes per concept. Learn in sittings of any length; your progress is saved as you go. You have a full year from purchase to finish, and you can revisit and retake within that year.
What does the certificate verify?
That you completed every concept and both capstones of this course. Anyone can confirm a Cognosco certificate online — enter its certificate ID on our verification page.
What if it isn't for me — what are the refunds?
If you have not started, cancel for a full refund within seven days of purchase. Once you have started, there is no cash refund — stop before finishing and we credit the full amount you paid toward any other course in the library (credit valid one year from your original purchase).
