Working with AI

Signature Course No. 40 — A Signature AI Socratic Coaching Course.

An agentic, mastery-based AI learning platform.

A New Kind of Learning

Socratic coaching, delivered by an agentic AI coach.

Not a course you watch. An AI coach you work with.

The Lighthouse Coach begins by discovering how you think about the subject, teaches what is missing, and gives you realistic practice before asking you to prove that you can use it. You may test out of concepts you already understand, while capstones turn the learning into a practical plan, decision, conversation, or other real-world result.

The curriculum is deliberately authored; the AI delivers it through coaching. It is not an AI randomly generating lessons.

Meet The Lighthouse Coach

A coach that teaches by asking — not by lecturing

The Lighthouse Coach is an AI Socratic coach built on Cognosco Learning's Working with AI course, in the Professional Development category. It does not play videos at you. It holds a conversation: it asks you a question, listens to your answer, names the misconception it hears, affirms what you got right, and asks the next question — the way a great coach works in the room.

This is the course for every professional who writes, reads, decides, or explains as part of the job — managers, analysts, administrators, consultants, teachers, and owners — who has an AI tool available and no system for using it well, for professionals who tried a chatbot once and concluded it was useless or, more dangerously, magic, for people whose work carries other people's information, and for anyone whose name goes on documents other people act on. It works in the order the work has to happen: first, Module 1 — Working with the Tool: Ask Well, Check Everything — learn what the tool actually is, a pattern machine and not a mind, treat the first answer as a draft and never a deliverable, frame the ask with task, context, material, and limits, give the tool something real to work with, iterate by steering instead of starting over, verify everything that matters — facts, figures, and names — name the confident error in its catalogue, ask for help without handing over the thinking, and know when not to use the tool at all, finishing with The Brief That Came Back Wrong; then, Module 2 — Working as a Professional: Judgment, Care, and Your Name on It — delegate the draft and never the decision, keep what must never go into a tool out of it, follow your employer's policy over habit, write in your own voice, hold the standing rule that you sign it and you own it, run meetings and research inside their fences, hold your standard among colleagues who work differently, and write the personal standard you will actually keep, finishing with The Memo With Your Name On It. You finish by proving the whole course — in The Brief That Came Back Wrong and in The Memo With Your Name On It. You can type your answers, or talk out loud: the Voice Coach speaks its questions and listens to your spoken replies, hands-free. The course is self-paced and always on — roughly 30 minutes per concept, about 9 hours in full, taken in as many sittings as you like. Learners who already know the material can test out concept by concept.

The fences, stated plainly — the course teaches you to state such things plainly, starting with its own teacher. This Coach is a structured coaching program built on a deliberately authored curriculum — not an all-knowing mind. No AI output — including anything this Coach produces — is reliable unverified. This is an education course, not legal or compliance advice: the guidance on confidentiality and data care is general professional practice, and your employer's policy governs your work — where the course and that policy differ, the policy wins, every time. The course names no AI product as an endorsed recommendation; it speaks of AI tools and chatbots generically, because the skill being taught — how a professional asks, iterates, verifies, and decides — outlasts any particular tool. And it makes no hype claims: it names no studies, prints no statistics, and promises no gains in speed, output, or advantage, because a course that teaches verification cannot ask you to take its own numbers on faith.

This is the fortieth course in The Lighthouse Signature Series — the online counterpart to the one-day, in-person training Cognosco Learning has delivered since 2002.

The Method

Know Where You Stand → Learn & Practice → Prove → Capstone

Every learner moves through the same discipline a Cognosco instructor would insist on in the room.

1

Know Where You Stand

The Coach starts by examining how you actually work with AI tools today — what you ask them, what you believe, and what you hand them — then maps what you know, what's shaky, and where the gaps are. Everyone begins with Module 1 — no skipping the foundations you only think you have.

2

Learn & Practice

Work each concept in conversation with the Coach — spoken or written — then practice it against realistic situations until it holds up.

3

Prove

Every concept ends in proof: answer the check cold and demonstrate the skill. Know it already? Test out and take credit immediately.

4

Capstone

Finish with two capstones — The Brief That Came Back Wrong for Module 1 and The Memo With Your Name On It for Module 2 — that pull the whole course together, and earn the certificate.

The Course Content

What You'll Learn

AI tools are now part of ordinary professional work — drafting, summarizing, researching, preparing for meetings — and most professionals are using them the way they were handed them: type a vague request, accept the first fluent answer, and move on. This course teaches the other way. You will learn what these tools actually are, in plain and honest terms; how to frame a request that gets useful output instead of plausible filler; how to iterate instead of starting over; and how to verify what comes back — facts, figures, and names — before any of it leaves your desk. You will learn judgment about what to delegate to a tool and what never to delegate, how to protect confidential information, and how to write with AI without losing your voice or your responsibility for the result. By the end of this program, you will have a personal standard for working with AI that you can state, follow, and defend.

What you will learn

  • Explain what AI tools actually are — and are not — in plain terms
  • Frame a request clearly and iterate until the output is useful
  • Verify facts, figures, and names before anything leaves your desk
  • Protect confidential information and own everything you sign

Who It's For

Built for professionals who work with AI tools

Working with AI is for every professional who writes, reads, decides, or explains as part of the job — managers, analysts, administrators, consultants, teachers, and owners — who has an AI tool available and no system for using it well, professionals who tried a chatbot once, got a confident wrong answer or a bland right one, and concluded the tool was useless or, more dangerously, magic, people whose work carries other people's information, and anyone whose name goes on documents other people act on: explain what AI tools actually are — and are not — in plain terms, frame a request clearly and iterate until the output is useful, verify facts, figures, and names before anything leaves your desk, and protect confidential information and own everything you sign.

The fences apply here, too. No technical background is assumed: the course teaches no programming, no tool settings, and no mathematics. And the standing rule of the course is the standing rule of professional life: you sign it, you own it.
